Dumb question. I have the 3811 with hydraulic landing gear and slides. Do I really need an 80 amp breaker and how will it help? Haven't blown any fuses yet. Please and thanks.

You don’t yet. You will need to replace it once you notice the hydraulics causing the breaker to trip. For me it took almost two years.

And a step drill bit, if you have one, makes it even easier and cleaner than a standard twist drill bit.

Wow. Wish ithis thread was around about 2 years ago. I was new to this while hydraulic leveling think and i had CONSTANT problems with the breaker resetting. I don’t know what it was and Camping World was worse than clueless. FINALLY another camper mentioned this to me, which I mentioned to camping world, and they finally upgraded it. Not a problem aeince then.

And it was....
Here is a just a sample of the 100's of topics on this subject. You would think that after 15+ years that Montana could have fixed the problem.

Where does the the pump mtg label 80 is ok? Mine went bad so I jumpered it AFTER some 'mobile mech' grossly changed parts to 'fix issue. Two days later & several hundred miles away it didn't work. Did my own 12v troubleshooting to discover a bad 50a fuse. Jumpered wires across & worked great. Bought new one @ NAPA to replace it. Never had another issue over past year.

I would have to think most MFG’s put in a 50amp fuse and other Brands have this issue. Our 2018 Montana is our first with Hydraulic Leveling so never head about this but glad I read it by my slides are Hydro as well, would be ugly to get somewhere and not be able to use the RV, so thanks for all that had input into this thread

I've been following this thread for a while. I haven't had any issues with my 2016 3160 RL Legacy slides, but the 80 amp circuit breaker sounded like an easy preventative maintenance fix. Today while we were prepping for a trip, I pulled off the old slide 50 amp CB and installed a new 80 amp Bussman CB. Attached are the pictures of the before and after. It took about 10 minutes to drill out the electrical lugs and install the new CB.

This is the manual for the hydraulic system, https://www.lci1.com/assets/content/...r_s_Manual.pdf
and on page #14, the picture shows the proper breaker that Keystone should have installed, and it is the 80 amp breaker. The only problem is, on page #16, there is a note that says circuit protection needs to be 50 amps to 100 amps, so I'm pretty sure this is where Keystone justified going with the cheaper breaker. Our 2012 came with a 40 amp breaker and it started failing very early on.

If it says 50 amp to 100 amp why would they use 40 amp????
Either new math or common core.

Our rig is a 2012 and I think it was one of the earliest rigs to come with the leveling system, although there were hydraulic slides for quite a while. Don't know when Lippert came out with the need for the 80 amp breaker or when any of the other specs came out or were changed. I'm also thinking that maybe if they used a quality breaker like the Bussmann breakers, maybe there wouldn't have been as many issues.

In reading this I was just wondering if anyone is increasing wire size, after all that is one of the major components the circuit breaker is protecting. If you increase the potential load to the components the breaker is serving you may be installing something that could be a fire hazard should there be an overload or short on the circuit the breaker is feeding. I can't imagine any company would be crazy enough to tell someone to increase the size of the circuit breaker without making major modifications to all the devices involved. As for drilling anything out, that is usually a sign of making a bad decision. Manufactures design things to not allow someone to make unsafe changes. Another thing to be aware of, just because you buy a circuit breaker doesn't mean you are buying one to protect the circuit properly. There are many different types of circuit breakers, as an example: Thermal Magnetic breakers compared to Instantaneous trip circuit breakers. One is designed specifically to protect in case of a short circuit. Im not an expert on making the changes suggested and certainly in no way recommending anything, just someone that likes to sleep at night knowing my electrical system was designed and installed properly! Would love to know what official document Lippert may have sent to anyone that suggests these changes?

Don it looks like you have connected your battery connect right to your motor connection. Battery connections should go to one side of each breaker and the load to the other side.To test just trip your new breaker and try pump. If it runs you have no protection.

Is the Bussman 80amp breaker an auto re-set or manual? My jacks and slides are giving me trouble.

Joe, The one in the pics posted by Donjamin appear to be manual.
The amazon link I posted is automatic.
Both are available from amazon and either will work.

Arkware the one you sent is about 3 times as costly! Guess that is what you get when you pay for convenience. LOL Thanks for your response.

I just went to an good auto parts store and purchased my breaker there! Works well and have had no problems! Don't have to wait for delivery and the cost was just a little above the lowest price listed above!
