Alternative Transportation
Merry Christmas All!
A couple of signature photos has prompted me to ask about travelling around locally when you get to your destination. I know Bigskyjimmy has two scooters in their signature photo. I have seen bicycles clamped to the back of the campers and I would have to check this again, but our dear camp hosts at Roper Lake seem to have towed a trailer behind their Montana. How have you folks handled this? I would be very interested to read your solutions.

Dea and I take our hybrid mountain bikes with us to use around the campground and for sightseeing in state parks. If we decide to go into town or farther than just inside the parks we take the truck. Has worked for us for several years now. Tim

We carry our bikes with us and when we make our summer and winter migration Joyce drives behind me in the Prius. Since we spend a number of months in one place, the Prius more than pays for itself at 50+mpgs. The Prius also carries the portable porch. When we travel to Rally's near where we are, Central States, Q, and others, we just take the truck and usually the bikes.

Kinda same as Dick. We go south for 5 months, DW drives the CRV and follows. In the summer, when we go to Colorado or points west, just the truck.

I travel all over with my 80cc Honda Elite and 150cc Roketa scoot ,the Honda is short enough to carry sideways behind my cab I just put my hitch to one side and push the scoot up a ramp ,the other 150cc is too long to fit sideways behind my cab so I bought a Draw-Tite front bolt on hitch and a motorcycle/scooter carrier attached to it, You can buy everything you need from www.discountramps.com

Thanks to all. Follow up question to BigskyJimmy. Do you need a motorcycle license for your scooters. I recall when I bought my kids moped years (and years) ago they didn't need one.

Depends on the State in WA state if is 50cc or under(MOPED) you do NOT but mine are 80 and 150cc (SCOOTERS) then you DO.. BUT my 80 and 150cc Scooters are so small they look like Mopeds and the Police do not give me and my wife a second look,that's good because in 15 years we have Not got an endorsment  and we are not going to and never had a problem...we used to have 50cc MOPEDS but they will only go about 25MPH and will not keep up with traffic SOOO 80-150cc is PERFECT they are small like a Moped but will go 45-55 mph  JUST RIGHT!

When we are traveling we depend on our bicycles and the truck. When in our old home area we keep a SUV stored and use that as a second vehicle. When we spend 4 months or more in our winter spot in Florida we keep a Wrangler stored down there.

We also do the moped scooter in places we don't have go take the truck. Parking is easier than the dully and they're fun to ride.

Yes we tow the Harley on a trailer behind the Montana. I built a sturdy hitch and it is bolted to the frame of the Monty. It has gone from MN to Texas twice and now we are in Roper Lake State Park in Safford, AZ. No problems as long as you don't have to back up very far. I have a camera installed on the back of the Monty so I can watch it at all times.

What is your "Total" overall length? Isn't the total allowable length - 65'?
