Moving recliners around
I seem to recall someone suggested putting a water heater pan underneath the recliners. This allowed easier movement when stowing them away for travel.
Has anyone done this? (I searched and came up empty)

We haven't done it, but I have seen it done. They seemed to swear by it.

We did it on our 2008 3400RL and it worked great.

I tried using the water heater pans but they weren't of much value to me. What did work are the plastic furniture moving disks you can get at HD or Lowes. I attached the disks to 24" diameter plywood rounds (also from HD or Lowes) and then bolted the plywood to the chair bottoms. This works very well.
There are a bunch of posts on this topic. Unfortunately all of them are from before Jan. 2014. And those postings were "Archived" which means they aren't automatically "searched". You have to check the "Archived Posts" box. The really bad news is that the Archive Search used to work (after the last major upgrade), but doesn't now. Hopefully someone will get this fixed.

Yep, it works great with the factory installed "miserable excuse for recliners". It is like having those plastic furniture movers under them. You can slide them around much easier. Later, I replaced the two ton recliners with some leather euro recliners which are light enough to move without the water heater pan.

We use two plastic hot water heater pans. On a scale of one to ten with ten being the easiest way to move the recliners and one being the hardest. Moving without the pans is probably a two. Using the pans might bring it up to a five. Definitely easier with the pans but still not the best.

That is one reason why I haven't bought new chairs. New ones come with 4 or 6 feet and you can't slide them on carpet. We have to move the chairs out from the wall when we setup and need that ring on the bottom of chair to move them. The plastic Movers device with plywood rounds attached sounds like a good idea. Our factory chairs are comfortable, but they put cheap fabric on them and showed signs of wear too soon.

We did the same thing that Carl and Susan did. We used round table tops from HD and attached large plastic furniture mover disks, then cable tied the wood to the metal ring. We used them in our '05 and moved them to our 2012 when we got it. They work great! Ken and Pat

Pans worked OK for awhile but were just a little small for the ring of the chair to fit into and eventually cracked. I ended up throwing them away. Since my heart problem last year Louise now moves the chairs as part of set up and tear down. She's a lot cheaper than the pans and doesn't crack so easily. LOL As it is my chair is ready for the scrap pile and we will replace it with a European type chair from our Florida house.

Either the chair base rings or the pans must vary in size. My chairs fit perfectly in the plastic drain pans I bought at Home Depot. I did have to cut down the sides to about half height. Not hard with a saber saw.
Much much easier than before. But still takes a little effort. Partly because they bump against the D rings and straps on the floor.

OEM rocker/recliners were too small for me and too heavy for full timing, we'd rather spend the weight on something we want so we bought Lazy Boys and haven't had a problem moving them around.

we used the water tank pans, cut the sides down some, used auto wax on bottom, redid the wax once a year. worked great. we have now replaced the original recliners with lazy boys - move with one hand.

We replaced the old fashioned chairs in our 3400RL with Laze Boys and when we travel, put them together back to back, with a bungee cord. They have never moved and are easy to move around as they are on the round wooden disc

Have a plastic HD pan on one and it cuts the effort in half at least. The problem with stock is they've little plastic feet under them that dig into the carpet. I've taken the feet off the other chair and it's about the same to move as the one with a pan.

We dumped those cheap seats Keystone puts in our trailers and went and got 2 big, puffy recliners. yeah they take up a lot of room but when I am watching TV in mine I don't care lol lol But yes they were ackward to move around. When we put the slide in they need to be sideways against the wall to fit. They also have wooden feet which makes them hard to move on carpet. They don't swivel either so they got to be easier to push aside when needed. We went to Sam's Club where they sell those plastic Office carpet protectors. The don't move at all and are large enough to cover the area where the chairs sit. We got 2 of them and they make if very easy to push the chairs around....

I tip our recliners a little and the round circular stand acts like a wheel and moves quite easily.

In our 2008 we replaced the recliners with Lazy Boys. The bottom was different, solid round I think. They sure moved easier than the OEM ones. As much as I hate shoving these new ones around in our 2014 unit I think I will put up with it for a couple more years. We will probably wear them out as full timers by then anyway.

How did you attach the movers to the round thing on the bottom?
