Dodged a bullet

Preparing for a trip in a couple weeks, i was rinsing out my holding tanks.
I go to open the black valve, and it opens,and the handle breaks off in my hand. I am holding the handle and about 5 inches of a 5 sided shaft that seems to have broken in the cable.
Luckily under warranty, and enough time to have it repaired. If we wer out on the road, does anyone know how to open the tanks without the cables?

Great question! I was on a trip to sunny Sanibel Island, where my wife and I are now staying.

Enroute, I had the handle to the black water valve come completely loose. I was lucky in that it turned out it was just a loose screw that I was able to tighten. But it made me wonder just what you are asking.

Short of dropping the belly cover I have no idea.

I have cut a access hole right where the valve is in the underbelly so I can spray lube on the valve and cable ,I am pretty sure I could push/slide it open manually with a screwdriver if I had too

My gray tank handle broke off a while back and I now have to use a pair of pliers to pull it out to dump and then push back in with the pliers. Cannot get the same black oem handle unless I order the entire system and that is a non-starter. Have a non-oem handle I'll drill and hopefully with a washer or two under the screw, I can get the handle on as a replacement.

My kitchen holding tank lever is extremely hard to open and close. The tank was replaced about 2 yrs ago because of broken neck I believe. There isn't any support for handle so you have to be very careful when pulling or pushing it.

This is a good thread. My black and grey handles have always been difficult to push and pull. I worry every time I dump one is going to quit working. When trailer was new black valve was not seating all the way and dealer worked on it. Technician told me he really didn't find anything, but it seated OK after that. He explained it is a cable operation and I have a hard time visualizing how a cable is rigid enough to operate the valves. What diameter cable is it? Is the cable inside a tube or something to keep it from bending? I will be watching thread to see what I could do in an emergency.

I had difficulty pushing and pulling all the handles. I started keeping a can of WD40 in the bay right by the handles and every time I pulled them out I sprayed the shaft and it made a world of difference. Now they all work quiet freely compared to what they used to and seem to seat better.

I sent a note to Keystone,and asked what i would have to do if i was on the road.
Their reply was:
To get to the valves,you will have to drop the underbelly, in the area of the termnation valves.
I responded:
What do i do if i am not handy, and cannot do this? Drive the rig to the nearest repair facility and wait to get it fixed.
Gimmy my old unit with the valves right by the dump cap.
