I like the idea of the cable lock. I may change my LP access doors back to no lock and install the cable locks. Thanks for the ideas. We should make access hard for the dirtbags not for ourselves!

I had not thought of it but propane tanks are a high risk item. Back yard grills, Fellow dirt bag rv'ers, etc. I think I will use the lock feature on ours.

The time it takes to get the tank and get away unobserved is the issue for thieves, then how about using a locknut with bolt same dimension as lock on the strap. No key or numbers to remember with minimal effort and cost to owner. We already have the wrenches we need for removal, but most LP tank thieves probably don't.

If they want it bad enough, one good pull on the tank against the strap, and the strap will break or the screw that holds it to the trailer will give out. As mentioned before, all of these measures only deter "honest folks", they may or may not cause thieves to seek easier targets nearby.

It's all a crap-shoot when it comes down to it.

Agree on the "crap-shoot", think I'll do nothing.

Thanks to jackel1959, I was not the victim of a propane tank theft last night. We spent the night in a park in Pratt, KS, and after dropping the trailer, we went out for dinner. Upon arrival back at the trailer, I completed the limited set-up for an over-night stay. This morning while breaking down things, I glanced at the indicator on the regulator and it showed we were still working on the right side tank. As it was only 13 degrees this morning, we decided to run with the heat on. Our last stop of the day, I saw the indicator was red, and assumed it was working on the full tank. We stopped to use the restroom prior to arrival in Clovis, NM, and discovered the pump was not pumping water. System was frozen. When we checked in, told the manager we needed both tanks filled. Went to remove the left tank, and discovered that the green fitting had been removed from the tank and the padlock was upside down. Thanks again for a great site and to jackel1959 made a sacrifice for the benefit of the others.

My brother in law is cop. Said the meth guys use them for making their product. My neighbor had his 50 amp cord stolen. Think the criminals were looking for copper! Nothing is safe.,,

I did install padlocks on mine and that gave me piece of mind. But to add insult to injury, someone, and I assume it was the same POS that stole the tank, stole our water supply hose for the RV night before last. They haven't gotten the cord yet and I will bee securing it today.

The Sheriff told me they just don't have the resources to have extra patrols in our area. I will be installing an infrared trail camera by the RV so hopefully I can determine who the thief is and give their photo to law enforcement.

Jack

I've got some lead if they want it.

I have plenty of firepower, but it is a long way to drag the body from the RV pad into the house
