Heading north to Sequim, Wa. area

Leaving on July 5th north to the Redwoods, then to Oregon to visit family and on to Washington to the Olympic rain shadow area. Staying in a nice RV park called Rainbow's End near Sequim.
Great timing too...they will be having the annual "Lavender Festival" while we are there. Sounds like a beautiful area...may go out to the San Juan Islands if we get a chance.
Then back down to the Bend. Oregon area and white water rafting on the Deschutes River and bike riding too of course. Staying at Crown Villa RV park.
Any suggestions from those familiar with the area is appreciated!

Sequim and that whole area is excellent. Last year we spent a month in Port Angeles, not far from Sequim. In Sequim there is an eagle's nest with a couple of toddlers in it, as of about this time last year. Also, the 101 Diner is there. I think that's the right name.

And don't miss Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park. Here is where we had lunch one day up on Hurricane Ridge...

We lived at Port Hadlock, WA for nearly two Years. Chimacum has an SKP park called Evergreen Coho. A side trip to the quaint town of Port Townsend may be of interest. I agree Hurricane Ridge is a trip worth taking.

If you hazard a trip to Port Hadlock, there is a good seafood restaurant named Scampi and Halibut. Their Caribbean Stew is a must. The Oak Door is a good restaurant in Sequim.

If you want an entertaining morning or afternoon, visit the Olympic Game Farm near Sequim. Hand feeding bison, elk, European deer, llamas, yaks and others is an experience. The have grizzlies and black bear that will perform for you when you throw wads of bread to them. The whole experience is a hoot. The feeding bread is available at the gate and is inexpensive.

If you like gardens, you can spend a day at Butchart Gardens on Victoria Island, a ferry ride from Port Angeles. Hope you have your passport. It will be needed to make that trip. The gardens are spectacular any time of year. We have many pictures of a wide variety of beautiful flowers.

There is much more to do in the area depending on your tastes.

Thanks Stiles for the great tips! Unfortunately, we will not have passports...thought about getting them but just too expensive for the brief visit this year. Maybe next year...we would love to tour B.C. and Alberta.
Right now I'm researching the San Juan Islands, we would like to spend at least one day out there if possible. Plan to go out to Vashon and Bainbridge Islands in the Puget Sound too.

We did most of that trip last year and you can see it on our trip journal. We stayed a week at Sequim and visited alot of neat areas--the Hoh Rain Forest is really interesting as well as Cape Flattery--furthest western point in the continental USA. If you drive out to the cape--100 miles one way--you will pass thru the Macah Indian Reservation--where there is a wonderful museum of Indian artifacts. We really enjoyed it. The salmon usually start running around Sept 1 so it looks like you will be a little early for that wonderful fish.

While in Bend, I'd visit the High Desert Museum, Lava River Caves and if you have time, visit the town of Sisters Oregon, it is about 30 miles NW of Bend. You can easily burn thru half a day walking up and down the main drag looking in the shops. Not a good place to take the other half though. Your wallet may take a beating!!

OK, so we are home again and had a great trip to Oregon, Washington and No. California!
Did some bike riding, hiking and sight seeing as well as visiting family in Roseburg, Or.
Some highlights:
~biking in the Redwoods in No. Cal
~Classic car/cruise nights in Roseburg, Or. (Graffiti Weekend)
~Sequim, Wa. Lavender Festival
~Olympic Nat. Park and Hoh Rain Forest, Hurricane Ridge
~Bainbridge Island
~Bend, Or. white water rafting, Newberry Volcanic National Monument,
High Desert Museum.

Trailer worked out great especially having the bunkhouse and extra 1/2 bath!
Truck did great...no probs at all, got around 13 mpg or slightly better.
Thanks again to all for the tips, we would love to go back up again...still much more to see and do.

Graffiti Weekend is great-especially if you have a classic car or hot rod!! When I went in 2005, every cruise-in event was free and the Saturday night cruise thru downtown Roseburg was a blast!!
I should try and go again next year..

Ya I was blown away by the Show n Shine car show at the park! Best car show I've ever been too by far...amazing weather and great people too.
Took some great pics of the cars and the whole trip.
Ed, how close are you to Roseburg?
EDIT: nevermind, just checked your profile...we did see a couple of Nash Metros there!

Ahhh, a Nash Metropolitan. As a teenager I made fun of them, except for the one with the good-looking teenage girl who drove it to school. Now I'd love to have one (I'm referring to the Metropolitan.)
