Coffee Spill-Help!

Hi-
Spilled a cup of coffee on our rug---cleaned it up as best we could right away and used 'Folex' which seemed to help but can still see discoloration. Would appreciate any good ideas for doing a complete removal of stain--short of replacing the entire carpet of course!!
Thanks in advance.

Friend of mine was just dealing with this issue on a light colored carpet. She used Peroxide (not the hair stuff, the other)

She said it worked pretty good. I would strongly suggest if you want to try it, rinse out well. Peroxide can if left too long actually "rot" away fabric.

I personally love Spot Shot, found at Wal*Mart. I have NOT used it on coffee stains, but it has taken out pet messes, tar, and other un-identified messes.

Good luck!

I use an old rainbow vac and lots of hot water. I dump the water on the carpet than suck it out until the water comes out clean. The rainbow vac is the one that uses water instead of a filter. It seems to have more suction than a shop vac or even a carpet cleaner. That's my story and I am sticking to it.

Had a bottle of Taco Bell Taco Sauce fall out of the cabinet and break on the carpet. Tried several things to remove to no avail.
Had the carpets professionally steam cleaned and they got the spot out after being there 18 months.

We have used Oxy Clean and it has removed stains that carpet cleaning companies could not get out.

Pet stain products such as Resolve also work well for spills and stains.

Getting water into the carpet and sucking it back out works especially if you can do it right away. We have used a squirt bottle of warm water saturating it, then followed up with a shop vac. Or rent a steam cleaner, it works well. Try not to use a lot of soap when cleaning carpet as the residue can remain in carpet causing it to look dirty. If a stain gets in and you can't get it out with just water, then I would say to use a carpet stain remover and follow directions on container. Also, blot, don't rub.

We have found that Awesome (cheap dollar store stuff) diluted about 10/1 and a small bristle brush (a little larger than a tooth brush) does an amazing job on spots of all kinds. Spritz it on and brush, then daub it up immediately. Spritz on some water and daub it again and you are done.

Just a note:

Regular coffee is the easiest to remove, using the above entries.

However, most people don't know that decaffeinated coffee is sometimes impossible to remove.

Why? Because when they decaffeinate the coffee bean, it loses it's color during the process. The bean turns a light gray. Soooo...they add color dye to the bean to make it look like regular coffee..dark brown. This dye has the same formula of the dye they use for dying carpet!!

20 years of carpet & furniture cleaning experience.

Yes, I drink regular coffee!!

I am in the Oxy Clean group. Our dog threw up while we were gone for a while. Bad looking stuff. It had been soaking for a while by the time we got back. Tried all kinds of cleaners we had including some pet spot remover we had. None took it all out. Tried our steam vac with pet carpet cleaner, still no success. Bought some Oxy Clean and it took it right up.

Spot Shot made by the same company as WD40. You can find it at Walmart. Takes even tar out.

I have used Awsome on everything except coffee spills - haven't had that issue yet but it does work on pet stuff and other issues. I do like the idea of just putting a throuw rup over it. Also, didn't know about the de-caf coffee color, another reason to keep drinking the leaded kind.
