Camp ground info

Has anybody stayed at the camp grounds on Jekyll Island off Georgia's coast? If so, what was it like and was it a nice stay? Did it have nice bike paths, food and neat thing to see?

Thanks,
Cindy(other half of "The Wind")

Change of plans. We go to the beach alot in Fla. so we are thinking of going to Stone Mountain in Georgia...Any things we should know? What is it like there? How far is "Six Flags Over Georgia" from there?

We were at Stone Mtn in May of 04. We stayed at Stone Mountain Park and enjoyed every minute.
If you stay in the park I would suggest looking at the campsites before they asign one to you. We did take pictures and you will see what I mean by clicking here. If you scroll toward the bottom you will see what I mean about some of the campsites. It was like sitting on the edge of a cliff with the cliff being on 3 out of 4 sides but the view was fantastic. They do have many other sites that are in a better location where you don't feel like you are on the edge of the world.

BTW-If you do get a site like I had be sure you chock all the wheels

Can't help ya on Six Flags.

Great pictures, Glenn. Based on your post, those pictures, and what else I've seen I've added Stone Mountain to our gotta go list.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

We too like the pics. I think that I will keep the truck hooked-up to "THE WIND" so it will not go over the side. BUT, then my wife informs me that it will not keep "THE WIND" from going over the side since it weighs more than the truck. Now I am scare. I will just have to try it.

Glenn, your post reminds me of the last time we stayed at Stone Mountain (May of this year). Although we have stayed there many times (beginning over 40 years ago), this was the first time we had this experience: as we were setting up, and having a good bit of difficulty leveling, the park manager came by on his "golf cart". He stopped to ask, "Did you request this campsite?" When we answered in the negative he said, "We can do better than this. Come back to the office and we will find a better site."

Even though it was a matter of hitching up again, I was glad for his assistance. He provided me with 5 or 6 possibilities and allowed us to drive around and pick the one that suited us best. His courtesy was very much appreciated and we found an ideal site--especially as it was backed up toward the office area and we had good WIFI.

Stone Mountain is one of our favorite parks, but many of the sites are very unlevel--front to back and/or side to side. We've had to use multiple leveling boards, more than I've ever used anywhere else. But we feel it is worth it.

On this last visit our plans had to be changed at the last minute and we had an entire extra day at the park. We bought an "all day/all events" ticket and enjoyed every minute of the day. The "4-D Theater" was a highlight. If you visit Stone Mountain, don't miss it.
