I-8, if you take I-10 you will end up 80 miles north of San Diego. The 8 takes you right into SD. You should have no more winter weather than rain which is due next week.
Happy Trails........................

The only thing to watch if you take I-8 is the long hill just West of El Centro in CA. You will climb from about 1000ft to 4400ft in a short distance. Sometimes there is fog or snow at the 4400ft level but you will run out of it as you take the long downhill run into San Diego. Most of the time the weather is clear, but watch the forecast for the area. Like they said the worst weather could be nothing but rain.

100% correct I 8. The only down side when I was being stopped twice for "road checks" maybe too close to the boarder for the Sercurity forces. Otherwise no problems some rain a little fog but it was a good route to stay out of the higher elevations. We drove it in the first week of this year. I will never drive from Chicago to Vista (just north of SD) as I did again, straight thru in 30 hours. It was a killer for this old Dad 51yrs (young in mind) Good thing thing I only had to drive 1 way. I left the explorer there and dropped the uhaul trailer. Yes I helped unload the uhaul into the apartment for my daughter (college and engaged to Marine stationed there). then I flew home for a rest.

Right now we are hold up in Linn Creek just west of osage beach, MO I am going to wait this ice storm out in a little campground called Ozark Trails. Rather be here than stuck somewhere in Okalahoma. We are goign to start out again on Wednesday. Thanks for all the info about I8, if anyone has a interesting way to get to I8 please share as we dont have to be to San Diego until Feb 3, so there is no time pressure just a good leisurely pace. Once again thanks all
