Waiiaka Trailer Haven in Yreka?

Portland/Woodburn RV Park in Woodburn, OR.?

Mountain View RV Park in Pendleton, OR. ?

Any comments good or bad would be appreciated.

We stayed in Yreka for a week or so in '97. I think there is only 1 RV park in Yreka so that is probably the name of it. It was okay. We had a smaller unit then but I don't remember the spaces being small. We met some very interesting people there - gold panners.

Doug, Don't know anything about the RV park in Woodburn, but if you wanted to stop an hour or so sooner, the Blue Ox in Albany is a nice place to stay, right off I5, concrete pads, nice staff, clean, pool. We'll be there next week.

You would be better off going over the summit and staying at Emigrant Lake in Ashland, OR, a county park (see signature photo below) or Valley of the Rogue State Park in Rogue River. If you are traveling this way before Labor Day, both will need reservations. They both have full hookups and much nicer sites than private parks.

I do not know about the park in Woodburn, but I can recommend one in Tigard, right off I-5, easy access and surprisingly pleasant: http://www.rvparkofportland.com

Nancy, that is a nice looking park. Have you seen the Waiiaka Park? I will be only staying overnight and leaving again the next morning early. I will be on my way to the Keystone factory in Pendleton, OR for repairs. Thanks for the information.

No, I have not seen that particular park, but then Yreka is not my favorite place. I found this review for the park:

Also, are you referring to the park in Woodburn behind the factory stores? We have stayed there twice, and it is nice. They give you the code for the locked gate, and you can shop and go back and forth to the stores. We stay there when visiting friends in Newburg and in the RV Park of Portland in Tualitan when shopping in Portland.

Doug you are welcome to come over to our place in Fort Jones. It is 17 miles South West of Yreka on Highway 3. The Waiika Trailer park is fair and right next to the Freeway. They are building a new park at the North end of Yreka but it won't be ready for awhile yet.

I would agree with Nancy that you would be better off over the hill in the Medford Ashland area if you can handle another hour from Yreka. A friend stays at the Peartree RV park Exit 24 at Phoenix, OR. Right next to the big truck stop. But there are lots of choices.

Just a thought. If you are heading to Pendleton, is there a reason you are going up 5 to 84 then east to Pendleton? If you hit 97N at Weed to 84E at Biggs Junction you will cut about 125 miles off your trip. From Weed to Pendleton is about 10/11 hours. Bend makes a nice layover. There are four or five CG there plus WalMart.

Good question. I used the trip planner on the Good Sam site and that is the way it programed me to go. I did the same thing on the TL site and it programed me the way you sugguested but says it takes about 2.5 hours longer driving time with about 60+ miles shorter distance.

I have driven it both ways and 97 is a better deal, especially, if you don't really like mountain driving. Go back to Good Sam and run your trip from Weed to Portland and count the MDA (mountain driving advisories) and then go and run it from Weed to Bend or Klamath Falls and then on the Pendleton (that will make it choose 97) and count the MDAs. 97 is a good road, albeit mostly two lane. The truck speed limit is 55, however, most of the traffic runs a little faster. The drive is longer time wise through Portland.

If you should go through Portland, diesel up after Portland. In Troutdale, I believe it is exit 17, they traditionally have the best prices around. You can choose between Flying J, Conoco, TA, and Arco, plus all the normal stop and robs. I live in the Tri-Cities in WA, about 60 miles from Pendleton. If something comes up and you need some help, get hold of me. If I can help, I will. PM me if you want a contact number.

Doug, I'd also suggest the highway 97 route. Collier State Park(full hookups)about 30 miles north of Klamath Falls would be a good overnight spot. It's about a 2 hour pull from Mt. Shasta. Let us know when you'll be passing through.
