LED question

I went and studied and looked online and bought the brightest LEDs I could find and installed them and presto, they put out as much light as a match. What am I doing wrong?

The ones that I bought from Michael here on the MOC are super white and brighter than the original ones. Well pleased.

Same here.

I did the entire trailer with them from Michael. I have had them about a year or longer and they are very good better than the 110V lights.

Knowing the Kelvin temperature (from yellowish through bluish) AND the brightness (lumens) of the light you like is key when you replace your old fashioned incandescent 12v bulbs.

Armed with this information you can purchase inexpensive LED's online, I've re-equipped my last two RV's from LED's I purchased on eBay at an extremely reasonable price.

I LOVE MY LED LIGHTS!!! I have them both inside and outside of our Monte.

Totally converted our rig to LED using Michael and Kat's product. Only ever had one bad bulb and they took care of it immediately. Not only did we get the low draw of the LED's, but they are bright enough that we only use our side lights now and never use our pancake lights unless we're looking for a needle in the carpet. If we use the pancakes now we could operate in here. One thing I've learned about the forum is that my research isn't complete until I check with the folks here.

I'm happy that everyone bought from Michael (not as happy as him) but I'm not buying any more until I find out if I'm doing something wrong. I bought from 3 different places to compare but they are all the same.

I don't know how you could do anything wrong, you plug them in and go. The only other reason I can think of for dim lights is low voltage

Ken, I would contact Mike and at least talk with him. He knows a lot more than I do about these lights. How many lumen and bright white vs. cool blue etc. Are the regular bulbs bright like they should be? There definitely has to be something wrong because our led's are so bright it is unbelievable. Good luck and keep us posted what you find.

Hello Kenny

I carry a couple of spares.

I am in Lincoln Nebraska and will be going east about the 7th of August.

If you happen to get close we can plug one of Michaels in your trailer and see what happens.

Hi

There is a good possibility we will be going by Boonville on the 8

We normally travel 350 to 400 miles a day. If there is a park nearby we could stop early.

Why not try one bulb from Michael and see what happens.

There are so many mfgrs. claiming this and claiming that if you aren't carefull you can get stung.

I haven't done the trailer yet but did the boat this last year and there is a huge difference. Brighter and all 6 led use less than one of the old bulbs. It matters to us big time as we live and die, sort of, on batteries. No plug ins and no generator.

If the old incandescent bulbs worked it means the wiring is ok. The bulbs were getting voltage and current to operate. If that is the case then I'd say the LEDs you got are junk.

There are several types of LED setups and the ones you don't want are those that simply use a voltage drop resister. LEDs typically only need ~1.5v to operate. They do vary a bit. The rest of the voltage is dropped by the resister which is a power waste and the led will lose brilliance as the battery voltage drops. If the builder doesn't get the resister value right then the led will not work properly.

The good ones have a bit of circuitry and are called PWM type or some such. They use a chip and some other bits to control the effective voltage to the led, keeping it constant to the led even while the battery voltage drops. No brilliance loss unless of course you really let the batteries die.

Try one from a known source and go from there. There are good leds out there.

I guarantee if you buy those bulbs from Michael & Kat they will be brighter. If you go to their website you will fine the replacements for the 1076

They also won't interfere with your TV and electronics.
