Calls to Lippert Today Very Confusing!

We have had our first Montana for 10 years now and for all that time I have been doing my slider maintenance a certain way, from reading various posts here, never had a problem.

Because we are getting a new 2015 I thought I would talk to Lippert for the latest and greatest information to start out right with their recommended maintenance. Talked to 2 different people and got to different sets of answers! First tech rep talked about using a CRC Super Power dry lube on the gear back and rails under the hydraulic slides. Then he talked about taking care of the slider seals. I called back a couple of minutes later, talked to a second tech rep because I couldn't remember the name of the dry lubricant, and he said that Lippert does not recommend ANY lubrication on either the slide seals or gear pack and rack underneath.

Have these folks been at any of the major rallies and talked about their current recommendations? If so what did they say? Seems like what I have been doing for a decade is wrong!?

What I thought was very interesting is that the second tech rep quoted from the current owners manual about the use of Mobil 1 Synthetic oil on the gear pack if and only if it squeaks. I was always under the impression that dry is best under there.

Yes totally confused now as well as we too it seems have been doing it wrong for longer than a decade. Not about to change what we have been doing though as I am sure the first rep has got it right.

Dry is definitely the way to go, anything else will hold dirt and grit.

I think the old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" sort of applies here. If you're been doing it your way for 10 years and no problems, why change what's working.

Lippert has recommended CRC on a number occasions at rallies for the rails. You can get it at Fastenal.

Wonderful! But why are they not consistent with their recommendations, they say one thing at a rally and sing a different song with a customer call. These Montana's are too expensive to mess around with.

Bob ... I know the excitement as well as the concern to maintain when it comes to a new fiver ... been there 3 times. Try not to get too caught up in the exactness of all this or you'll diminish the new camper experience. Other than several new bells and whistles, the basic framework, side walls, roof, slides, awnings, are very similar if not the same as your 2955. The frame is now 12" instead of 10" and the front is "dropped" for more cargo space, but it's still an IBeam with the same spacing and cross joists ... hydraulic slides are the same with the comeback of the cable operated electric on some models.(my 2000 2850RK had a cable slide) The suspension has a different center pivot point, but is still a spring and shackle suspension now with the wet bolt option. The basic brakes are the same with the addition of a small cable, a small lever, and a star wheel to make them auto adjust similar to drum brakes on a car. Winding this down ... what I'm getting at is there's more "bling" to the overall fiver you're buying ... what the "bling" sits on is very similar to your current unit. Keep doing what you've been doing, become proficient with the level up, and your satisfaction will the RV experience will continue.
