My 4x4 sagged bad before the air bags. This sag caused the truck to shudder when driving off from the stop.
I installed the Firestone air bags mainly to raise the rear end and stop the shuddering. The end result was that they also improved the ride (DW noticed this immediately) and lowered the headlights (no more blinding of oncoming traffic.
When not loaded or towing I keep about 15 psi in each side (minimum is 7 and the controller will not go lower than that). I measure the distance between the edge of the wheel well and the top of the tire. I then hitch the trailer and raise the landing legs. I then air up the bags until I am close the the original distance (gotta have some sag). I have been known to use between 55 and 65 psi depending on how the truck bed or trailer are loaded. They work great! Enroute, I have been known to make some adjustments which is why I like the wired controller and on board compressor.
Champ49, I have heard other dually owners complain the air bags don't work so well with their dually. Maybe it's because they may not be as needed with a dually.
