Removing wall in storage area

I keep reading about people removing the wall in the storage area to get into the area where the holding tanks and other plumbing is.

My question is: How do you remove the wall? Does anyone have photos of doing it?

I have a 2009 3400.

If you are talking about the grayish fabric covered wall fore and aft in the storage compartment ... they are just particle board screwed into the aluminum frames. You'll find a half dozen or so square headed screws holding each one on. Except for the curb side one with the antenna wiring, the others just pull straight off. Most of your water connections are behind the white plastic enclosure on the street side with mostly just water lines, ducting, and wiring behind the gray panels. As for accessing the gray and black tanks ... they are under the flooring, not behind the walls ... at least on my 3150.

On our 3400 there was a wall behind the convenience center (white plastic) that could be removed to gain access to the plumbing and valves associated with the convenience center. If this is the wall you are referring to, removal is easy, there are screws that hold it on that have to be removed (top, bottom and on the convenience center partition). We also had to remove the shower drain trap (have towels ready- hint!!) and even then there was some twisting and shoving to get the plastic partition out. As mentioned this does not provide access to any tanks, just to the plumbing fixtures behind the convenience center.

When you watch them build the rigs at the Rally you'll see that all the tanks are under the floor or above the under belly depending on which side you are looking from. We have a white plastic wall behind the convenience center that when you take it off gives you access to the water pump and a lot of water fittings etc. Much of the rest is behind the gray wall with the antenna stuff on it. There is no substitute for coming to a Rally or going to Goshen and taking a tour to see how they are put together.

This is a shot from the street side with the panels removed ... all the rats nest of plumbing immediately to the right is behind the white partition behind your convenience center ... you don't need to pull any of the gray panels to get to these ... just the white partition also simply screwed to the wall.

To get access to the gray and black water dump valves, I located the area they were in and cut the flakeboard flooring that is covered in black felt. I haven't figured how to post pictures but can send you some in e-mail. You will find that the gas line is under the drop panel. Cutting the floor does not weaken the unit. Screw a couple of sticks across opening ends to support the pieces you cut out. To change the seals and gaskets on the valves, you will have to cut the pipe between the black wate tank and valve, then use a 3" rubber coupling with metal straps for re-attachment. Good Luck.

anyone installed a water filter behind convenience center wall? was thinking about removing white plastic wall to install filter, then cut access opening with removable closure panel for future filter maintenance.

Fauch that is an interesting idea. I want to install a water filter...I am one of those weirdos that will NOT drink the water from the tanks. Right now we are using a cheapo blue filter. I am not comfortable drinking off of that until it is fully filtered.

We have two filters and a water softener that we use almost all the time. The problem I would see in installing a filter behind the plastic is that when you have to change the filter (could be frequently if someone is working on the mains or the campground has a well picking up sand) then it would be a PITA to get back there and change it.

Dick is right on the mark. It would be a severe PITA to get to the filters and it will also depend on the size of the filters. We chose to go with 3 jumbo (4" x 10") cannisters from the RVwaterfilterstore.com http://www.rvwaterfilterstore.com/. I just finished the install and will post pictures shortly. I mounted the filter system on the wall directly opposite the convenience center and ran the water lines at the top and back over to the convenience center wall and thru to connect to the outside water.

I went with the following set-up in the cannisters - Cannister #1 – 1 micron sediment, Cannister # 2 – Birm-BB (removes iron), Cannister # 3 - CFBC-10BB (carbon block).

So far it has made a major difference in the water quality and taste.

Nice thing about the Birm is you can replace the filter media inside by buying it bulk so it helps cut down the cost over the long haul.

We use a sediment filter, then the charcoal then the water softener to try and achieve the same result. Also all from the RVwaterfilter store.
