Roof loose again

My roof came loose at the front cap 2 years ago. Keystone paid for the repair by Holiday World RV in Houston. Now I have the same exact problem again. I'm at a loss.

Hi Jetson,

Does your roof blow up like a balloon when driving down the road or stay like it is in the picture?
Looks like the membrane needs to be stretched out a little. If air can't get under it, I don't think it is hurting any thing. My roof bubbles a little along each plywood seam, but it doesn't seem to bother any thing.
Have you had it into a dealer yet ? Should see what they have to say.

Our roof on our Travel Supreme looks like this also and has the past several years. It doesn't billow up or anything, and it doesn't leak either. Guess the glue just lets go or something. Don't know why it does it.

I checked closer this weekend and found the roof is not being held by the strap across the front cap. The original problem was screws that were too short pulling out and releasing tension on the rubber roof. Apparently that has happened again as the roof is loose under the retaining strap.

I have bubbles like that across the seams on the roof of our brand new 3400. Keystone techs looked at it at the fall rally and said..not to worry. We took a lot of pictures and took the name of the tech who said not to worry along with the date he said not to worry and sent the pictures to "Team Montana" Just in case...

Has it cracked the caulk along the nearby vents and roof hold-down strips?

JETSON,
Have you contacted Holiday or Keystone about this problem? I don't think it should be that loose. I am sure Keystone paid Holiday a pretty penny for the warranty work.
It looks like the membrane is more loose from the sides rather than end to end. Might not be as difficult to repair.

Good luck.

I took the camper to PPL Motorhomes and Holiday World RV (my dealer) back on November 17th. PPL Motorhomes said the glue had turned loose under the front section of the roof and the roof needed to be replaced, about $4,700.

Holiday World said they thought they could peel back the front of the roof and reglue it. They were going to communicate with Keystone and get back to me. I am still waiting (December 28th). I called them since I hadn't heard anything. They said they would not repair the roof.

Keystone said they would not cover the re-repair of the roof since they had already paid Holiday World 31 hours labor to replace it the first time.

I think the original problem was screws too short as Jeff Rank said, but when it was repaired, if longer screws were used, they went back through the same retaining strap holes and into the same original stripped out holes, so they did not hold the second time either.

I'm not happy that the manufacturer and dealer cannot coordinate to properly correct the problem.

Jetson, your picture looks just like our roof. Richfaa, thanks for mentioning taking pictures. I always forget that one should do that.

I had to go beyond Team Montana to get help. Montana felt that they had paid to correct the problem and if it still a problem, then it was the dealer's problem. I think they should have some influence on and for their authorized repair centers. They finally contacted Holiday World in Houston to get them to agree to dismantle the front section of the roof, peel it back and reglue it. We are sharing the $600 cost 3 ways. I am hoping for a better result this time.

Your getting action which is the main thing. I know it is a LOT of money to have to shell out but it beats the 6-7 grand for a new one. I do agree you should not be having this problem two years after the same problem was repaired.

I have some "wrinkles" like that in the middle of my roof in the middle of the trailer. The trailer is brand new. Should I be concerned with this?

Jim I have some bubbles/wrinkles on my unit and they are common. His unit has some severe wrinkles and roof issues. If your roof has some slack keep an eye on it and unless they get a lot bigger you shouldn't have to worry. Mine get smaller in the summer and I usually have a few which are a little bigger in the winter. My dealer told me this is common for the membrane used for the roof.
