Consensus on how much to add to your height in an RV GPS - Montana Owners Club

Okay I have been here long enough to know a consensus is not possible

Seriously though, on your GPS do you:
1. put in the measured height of your Monty?
2. add x amount of inches?
3. If 2, how much do you add?

My shiney new Garmin RV 770LMT-S just says to enter in height of RV

Don't know about Garmin, but our Rand McNally hasn't gotten us in trouble in it's 7 year run including over 75,000 miles many of which were on the back roads to Wildlife Refuges. I input the actual height.

In the road construction we have seen the surface is ground down then the new surface added .If they did not do that and just resurfaced over the existing surface it would not take long for the roadway to gain several inches in height.

I set mine at 13'6" I measured 13'3". Figured that is what truckers are supposed to be in most states.

I wish you luck with the 770. Tried both the 660 and the 770 sometime back and neither worked in RV mode. It may have been the fault of Garmin's maps in the area where I was trying them out but did not take the chance and returned both to Amazon. RV height was the least of the problems.

Good reminder as mine was set to before the 2nd a/c and 1" spring blocks were added to ours 2 years ago

. It's actually 13'4" but the Garmin 760 is set now at 13'6". Unfortunately, that doesn't 'see' low hanging wires!!

I have found most of the vertical obstructions you need to worry about are not in your GPS. Tree limbs, gas station overhangs and overhead wires are much more apt to bite you than bridges. Most low bridges tend to have decent sign warnings before you get to them but not all. Where you plan to travel is also a factor, areas that were developed in the last 50 years tend to have few low bridges.
