Shade Screens ??

We have been talking about our back window on the 3400rl. We are parked with the back facing west and it gets right warm in the afternoon, Other then putting a foilback in the window we are looking into one of those sun shade screen. The questions are---
Do they help in keeping the heat out?
Can you still see out the back window with it up?
Do they give you privacy, or do you still have to pull the shades at night?
The snap fasteners, are they stick on or screwed in?
What is the best way to go, any particular brands?
thanks in advance for any info.

I do not own one but I know that NuWa offers one on their trailers and the owners like them. The one they use is made by A&E.

We have the roll up one from Carefree and it works great. Keeps the heat down and the sun out. You can not see in during the day but you can at night. It does not block your ability to see out.

We have the Carefree one also and love it. It's made a big diffence in the heat that can come in from the sun. We are real glad we put it in. It's affixed on the outside on a spring loaded roller above the window. I use an awning rod to pull it down. There is a bar on the bottom that the outside edges slide under two brackets that are mounted on both sides of the window at the bottom.

The most attractive ones I have seen were on George and Rosetta's rig. They use magnets on the window itself to hold the screens on and from what I understand there are different patterns available. They were even custom fit to the window size. I highly recommend that you PM "Jay Bird" for more information.

I have the Care free on the back window and it does keep some of the heat out of the RV but you can still feel the heat comming through the window and aluminm frame on occaisions like realy intence solar heat I slide a 4 foot by 7 foot piece of that reflective bubble instalation between the outside window and the screen, the screen holds it in place very good.

I didn't have a whole lot of money so I used material from these folks and made my own. Work well to keep the temps livable here in the Florida summers.

We use shades from Magne Shade. We not only have them for the back window but the side ones also. They are custom made and come in several patterns and colors Bingo mentioned . They are held on by magnets. Easy to install, put up and store when not in use.

I went the transparent window film route, available at Lowes or Home Depot. Works great, but getting a single wet sheet up and in place with no wrinkles was not easy. I used the 85% shade version and it worked fine in Arizona. Kept the afternoon heat down considerably.

We have the easy snap ones and like them very much! We can see out but no one can see in. At night you can see in if the blinds are up and the light is directly near the window. We bought 2 packages at Costco last summer and hubby got them all set up for us. We did realize we can't put the buttons on the side windows of the slides-fortunately before we made that mistake. Whew!!

I have the Sunshade by Carefree on the rear window. Easy to install, easy to use, agree with previous posts about not seeing in daytime but somewhat at night. If you order one wide enough to fully cover the window and black frame, there is minimal heat transfer into the fiver. I like it because there is no folding it up and storing it during transit ... it simply rolls up.
