Watch your height

Evidently missed seeing the sign before going into the underpass...

I guess the sine wasn't big enough to read! should know how tall your rig is and watch out
all the time. Kind of felt sorry for them tho.

Forget the sign! How could the driver not see the underside of the bridge at just a couple of feet above eye level?

I need 13 feet. I pulled into a road that had an 11 foot overpass. Stopped and called 911. Had to back up about 300 yards in order to turn around. No one was very happy but better than the alternative.

That is a long way to back up with a 40' 5er. I need 13' 7". So far the Garmin rv760 has kept me from that problem at least twice I'm positive of.

Hope no one was hurt in that accident. Looks as if the trailer might have been ripped off the truck.

I saw an accident ~~ saw how well the hitch held the pin and how easily the back bolts holding hitch to the frame broke.

If you need 13'7" you also need an oversize permit, as 13'6"" is the national max height. I can tell you that while the rv or trucker gps will keep you clear on the major hi way's, your on your own on the city streets. I can think of several in Tulsa that won't show up on gps. If you really are 13' 7" than you must have a lifted truck or misadjusted hitch, as none of the rv's will exceed 13'6" from the factory. Than again maybe you just need 13'7"" to feel comfortable: not a bad plan!

I drove under a low bridge in upstate NY. Missed the truck route sign. I am 13'3" and the bridge was about 12'8" where I hit it. Luckily I did not do the damage this poor guy did. I lost the sat and front AC but only $3,700 in damage. I now have a Garmin 760 and do check several other sources for low bridges. I am just happy that no one was hurt. Things can be repaired or replaced but people can't.

There is no Federal vehicle height requirement for CMVs. Thus, States may set their own height restrictions. Most height limits range from 13 feet, 6 inches (4.11 meters) to 14 feet (4.27 meters), with exceptions granted for lower clearance on particular roads.

It looks like ‘results may vary’ LOL

The factory specs on my unit list a height of 13'5". Actual measurement on my non-lifted truck with the hitch lowered as much as possible (and it is still a little nose high) is 13' 1/2" (front AC is the high point).

I get nervous with any bridge with less than 13'6" clearance. It has been my observation (not sure if it is correct) that most overheads don't have a sign if the clearance is greater than 13'6".

Makes you wish there was some sort of on the fly measuring device you could add to your vehicle (something electronic not one of those escourt vehicle flag poles). Anyone here ever hear of such a thing?

I was measured twice loaded for a snowbird trip both over 13'5" less than 13' 6". You always wonder if a resurface was done and not recorded.
