Questions For Ford 6.7 Owners

Just wondering if others use all 6 forward gears when towing or do you lock out 6th?
Also, looking for preferences on what display is the most useful eg. Mileage, gauges, compass, others?

Absolutely use all 6 gears. Put it in tow mode and the computer will decide what gear you need. I always keep the MPG gallon display on but that's personal choice.

Use all 6 gears and tow/haul and let truck decide right gear. I like to monitor oil temp, also switch to MPG/last 10 minute history and the degree of grade/wheel alignment screen some too.

I just put it in drive and let the transmission computer do its thing. I do manually downshift as I don't care for the tow/haul mode programmed downshift. I like to monitor the transmission temp, especially in hot weather and pulling long hills. One thing that amazes me is the mileage calculator. First one I ever had thats on the money. When I pull in for fuel I will look at the gallons used since last fill up and usually the final gallons I pump to fill is within .1 or .2 gallons.

I use the tow haul mode as mentioned before. The truck knows what it needs to do on flat as well as hilly roads. When not in mountain ranges I watch the fuel uses. In mountain ranges I look at the transmission temp.

Like other have said above, I put it in drive and let the tow/haul do the rest.

I have only pulled my 5er once when I purchased it last month in Wisconsin. I pull two different construction trailers off and on during the week, but not as heavy. If I am hooked up I have the tow/haul mode on. In my younger days I drove a semi so the heavy down shifting seams about right to me.

All six gears in Tow/Haul mode. Also the little toggle switch on the tow/haul stem when toggled will show what gear you are in or not by toggling.(while in D mode) A little known option. I like to know what gear I am in, in case I want to force a down shift by giving it a little more diesel. Also, very little issues keeping the Cruise Control on as well. Only extreme mountains make me manually drive.

I did discover by accident though about the minus button even when in drive. Always thought the plus and minus was just for manual mode, but then found out that the + & - can be used to display what gear you are in and also limit the upshift sequence.
Thanks for the good info guys as usual, six it is.

I put mine in cruise control and leave it; once in a while it will drop to 5th gear during a climb. Best tow truck I have owned over the years. A dealer told me recently that Ford intends to have an 8 Speed in place in 2016.

I use the cruise control when towing also. I don't miss my exhaust brake since getting new Ford!
