RV Refrigerator
How cold is the freezer compartment on you RV refrigerator? My Norcold 2118 has been on continuously for about 5 weeks with the control set on 6; half the time on gas, half on electric. The coldest temp in the freezer has been 9 degrees; I would like it to be colder; ice cream is too soft. If I turn the control colder, the Refrigerator compartment freezes. I can't find anything that regulates the temperature between the two compartments.

Scott that’s about as cold as it gets. My biggest complaint about the RV fridge is that it cannot keep ice cream frozen someone at the ralley told me that if you keep the ice cream on the left side lower shelf are it will but my Hagen Daz butter pecan disagrees.

A small battery operated fan in the frig will keep things from freezing. A couple of d-cell batteries will last about a month.

The OP wants the fridge temps to be colder or more specifically the freezer temps.

I was responding to OP's fourth sentence and providing a solution that works for me.

Lower left in the freezer is as cold as it gets and ice cream will never be really hard unless you have a residential frig.

You need to lower your expectations if you have the RV fridge, go with cheaper ice cream that has less butterfat and your ice cream will be harder. The high end ice cream that has higher butterfat content needs a much colder freezer to keep it hard, and lower end ice cream that has less fat will freeze much better. We are experiencing 100 degree days, and our freezer will go up to 15 degrees during the day and by morning down to maybe 10 or 11 degrees. The fridge is usually about 35 degrees. Where we are parked now, the fridge side of the rig faces south, so it is getting full sun during the day.

I put an inexpensive electric fan with a timer behind my fridge so that there is extra air circulation during the hot part of the day. Seems to help a lot.

Hi Scott did you do the ARP mod yourself & if so what did it entail to install. I've read you have to partially pull frig out? Also were did you get the temp meter from.
Thanks Bobby

Yes, I did it myself. I don't remember it being too hard; I did not pull my frig out. The only slightly difficult part was reaching up and installing the boiler tube sensor. Some models may have to be pulled out to do this, but not mine. There is a ton of information on the ARP web site including an installation manual for the Norcold 2118.
Here is the temperature monitor. It has two remotes and also monitors room temp. Works great so far.

At our Quartzsite circle this past January, Paul Unmack and his wife Mao, with ARP, put on a presentation to our group and also installed some ARP devices. I do not remember how much he charges, but if you are not able but want an ARP device installed, this would be a great time to have it done. Becky and I will again be hosting the circle for January 2020, and in a couple months will be posting information for this coming circle. The ARP web site is here: https://www.arprv.com/

Thanks Bob I'm just going to install ARP unit myself. Judy & I will probably be attending Quartzsite circle next year again we really enjoyed it last year both Becky & you were very gracious. I'm in process of installing 2000w inverter/charger, 4-6v AGM batteries & 2-200w with 40 amp mppt controller.
We're going to try and stay 3mo in the BLM long term.

Im gonna rip mine out next year and install a residential style fridge, for this and other issues. This model fridge uses a lot of electric, if you are metered , it adds a tom to your bill I speak from an experience. Ill have a used 2118 for sale in the spring LOL
