It is mostly in the 3.999 to 4.00 around Savannah and Statesboro Ga. Can't seem to find a cheapy around here. I screamed and bitched for a week after it hit 3.00 but ended up like everybody else, just accepting it and going on with life. This is getting out of hand and if it takes a truck strike to help fix it then have at it.. Dave and Betsy

We could use a little help from our Elected Representatives and our Government in the following areas. Some positive action to shore up our failing Dollar. Some positive action to encourage oil exploration and incentive to build more refineries and drill more wells so we would be less dependent on Foreign oil..instead of discouraging all that stuff. Does anybody understand that Moose, elk,Caribou have a greater impact on the price of our fuel than OPEC???Learn how to llve and compete in a Global economy. We can no longer ignore the fact that we are not alone on this planet and can no longer impose our will on others. If we could do all that maybe we would not need a trucker strike.

Amen, Rich. It's time the U.S. started responsibly developing and managing its own resources, among so many other things that could be done.

It will take more then just a truckers strike. The strike if any will only bring attention to the problem what would
take to fix it I have no idea. On the other hand My sister lives in Germany and I asked her today what are the fuel
prices over there and she said that the diesel is the cheapest and they pay 1.33 euros for it that is an equivalent of
$8.00 per gallon, but most of it are the taxes which are used to pay for roads, health insurance and etc.

Rich, I read on the truckers site that US refineries are exporting the diesel fuel to the other foreign markets.

We cruise alot and I always ask what they have to pay for fuel. Most places that we have cruise to have been paying from $1.50 to $3.00 more a gallon than we have. Costa Rica was paying $5.00 a gallon when we were paying $2.50. Britian pays at least two time more than we do.
Not sure what the solution is, but we are driving less and will travel closer to home. Just took the longest trip in the RV this year, about 280 miles. This will be the big one for this year.
I can say that if you are in the Lake Charles, LA area the Coushatta Casino has great prices and you don't have to gamble. Rates are $17 during the week and $22 on the weekends. They take Good Sams etc. You can park in casino parking lot and stay for free. They have the cheapest diesel prices around at $3.77. Nearest low was $3.89 when we were coming down.

Keep in mind that the high cost of fuel in most, if not all of those countries is due to taxes to support all the "freebies" that other countries provide their citizens.

On the news today in Houston, there was a gas station selling Regular at $1.99 a gallon. There was a very long line waiting to get in. A church sponsored the scientific event and picked up the rest of the tab.
Wish I had been in line if the same price was for diesel???

When we started traveling in early 2003, diesel was cheaper than unleaded. Before long, that reversed and diesel was a nickel more per gallon than unleaded. Then it went to a 20 cent differential. Here in this vally diesel is now 76 cents more than unleaded. Why?
While doing a scenic drive up in the mountains yesterday we saw diesel for 3.899 and turned around and stopped to fill the tank even though we had better than half a tank remaining. The reason? Diesel in this valley is 4.059 at the "cheap" station.

Just passed our local gas station and diesel is up to a whopping $4.299 per gallon. GULP! I have read this thread with great interest and see how some people report it had gone down a bit, but not here in the good old Detroit Metro area where thousands are unemployed because of the American Axel strike. Dick is currently in that group of unemployed Michiganders and it's of course affecting all businesses around here as well.
This will definitely alter our plans of travel this year. We'll have to go shorter distances and stay longer in each place to try and off set and back off the accelerator some too.
I don't know what the answer is to fix this huge problem but everything any of us purchase is affected by fuel prices as everything has to be shipped from point A to B and I'm sure that even goes to something going to point C and further.
We are just getting ready to start our Great Adventure and this is going to make it far more challenging to say the least. That being said we are going to try and keep a positive outlook and mind set and just look at it as a huge learning experience while having the goal of enjoying each and every minute of it.
The good news is we've own "Sky" now for five years and have everything it her we need, and full timing doesn't really allow one to add too much so that will limit purchases anyway.
Still $4.299 and rising is cause for a huge GASP when one sees the fuel tank gage dropping and telling you it's time to fill her up again.

I was in the area where I filled up a few days ago for 3.799 and it was 3.819 (Why don't they just round it up to 3.82???) Everyone else was running at 3.879-3.899.
This was at the Valero next to Wally World on Hwy 105 in Montgomery, TX
Makes me wonder why certain stations can sell for 5 or 6 cents less per gallon.
2005 F350 did good in this small hill country area. Went 25 miles at 14.2 MPG stop and go, up and down hills. (Not towing)

In reading an article on the Web, access via The Drudgereport, independent truck owner/drivers are NOW starting to complain. We will watch if they have any impact on the price.

Maybe the answer will come from something such as this. Although this relates only to gasoline the same basic principle can be applied to converting the sugar carbon to diesel hydrocarbon. Research will be required to determine what catalyst would do the conversion.
