Really, Keystone. Really?

So, I needed to replace the sewer hose door and frame since I didn’t close it good and the door blew off. Got the replacement. It has three screw holes on top and bottom and two on the sides. A total of 10 screws. I take the old one off and this is what I see. They got three holes on the top and two on each side — barely. And only one on the bottom. The put a piece of metal strip on the middle bottom screw and used it to keep the bottom in.

Looks like whoever cut this hole was either blind, drunk, inept, or just didn’t give a darn.

I'm willing to bet that this door was not part of the rig as delivered from the factory. This appears to be installed by a previous owner.

If that is at the rear of the passenger side (best as I can tell from the picture) I agree it was not a Keystone installation.

I've seen a lot of Montana's but never one that had that.

Well, dave, you get the opportunity to do it better than what was there when you got your used montana. However it got on the rig...it was a very poor install. If you wish to use that same door/frame that was there previous...I would try using metal strips and pop rivets to reduce the cutout size and allow for a more secure install of the new assembly. Jc

Well, there is one thing about it; if you got the quick replies of Bob, Carl, and Dick, I’d say it wasn’t from Keystone. If these guys were on Jeopardy, answering questions about Montana’s, Jeopardy would go bankrupt. Incredible knowledge!!

well if they are replacing the door I. would think the original was put on by Keystone or how would they know what to replace. It appears they have Stevie Wonder working for them now. lol

That is the port side aft under the couch window. Same as our 08 Big Sky had. Same quality cutting, same result. When I replaced it I put a piece of flat aluminum bar stock on the bottom of the frame to back up the holes they couldn't drill since there was no metal to drill. I also installed the new door so it opened up and not down. I put a clasp like the one on the main basement door to hold it open. Much better than original..

On my 3485 the door was mounted where it opened down. Hence it came open, gravity took its' toll and the door blew off. I took the frame off and found the same crummy hole, but six of the ten screws were in place.

I mounted the new door with it opening so gravity helped keep it closed. Then ran a bead of silicone (acetic acid type) around the edge. Still there after six years.

Ditto on my 3731, door opened down, ordered a new one and installed it correctly. I'm an owner of a Millwright & Piping company, we call this shabby work a "Bitch Cut", all my screws were installed though. Lot's of "Bitch Cuts" on most RV's. Good thing for trim, caulk and silicone

The paint on that skirt looks very orange peel. Another indication of a poor aftermarket install. I sprayed for a living and that is not professional IMHO.

I would say it's not factory installed, however, after googling your rigs model, I see it on others as well, so I would say a very bad install from the factory or a very bad replacement install of the original. Found this image on google, it's a 2008 3400RL. Is that the panel you're referring to?

Well Ive been working on my 2016 3000RE, replaced black and gray water tank valves and yes decided to tackle the Galley tank 1-1/2 inch. Replaced all of them with electric and work great. So in the process the debris, loose wires, hydraulic lines etc. rained upon me when removing the belly pan. while working on the galley tank valve noted a metal piece laying diagonal on top of the tank, yep, free to bounce around! only way out was to cut it as it wasn't obvious where it attached. Then it occurred to me it was meant to support the bottom of the tank as the tank was bowed not allowing complete drainage. I wire welded it back together, installed under the tank, fit perfect between frames! Based on what I worked on so far I would not be surprised the door was installed at the factory that way. This is my first Montana and know others have had more than me, but it is obvious its all about getting them down the line and out the door. I took pictures and will post some time down the road, we do like our camper overall but just amazed at the things that are hidden.
