VERY Happy Texas Storm Camper

Our area was clobbered by tornados and severe storms Sunday last. My S&B roof is scattered over 1000 feet from the house and I've got flower planters in the neighbor's pasture. My garbage can was found 10 feet off the ground in a tree on my other neighbor's property. I had my Monty parked next to the house and was in the process of cleaning it after a recent camping trip. All the slides were out and it was plugged in. The storm hit about 7 or 8 pm and lasted until about 2 am. We were under constant tornado and severe storm warnings and watches. We had unrelenting hail the size of golf balls, winds in excess of 70 mph and horizontal rain.
My house is practically destroyed.
The Monty has some hail dings in the J-wrap, some holes in the A/C Shrouds and some minor damage to the trim inserts. The 4 slide-toppers are pretty much toast. (fabric only) I had some water forced in through the slides on the ODS but so far doesn't seem like it damaged anything.
What I'm trying to say is, I'm amazed at the real lack of damage to the Monty relative to the damage of my house. I know we all have problems with our 5er's but this has to be a testament to the basic construction of these units.
Of course, I've got the repairman coming out for a thorough inspection in a day or so, but as of now, I'm a very happy camper.

Good to hear the Monte came thru as well as it did. Must have caught a little wind protection from the house. Y'all really got pounded down that side. Was that one of the 11 confirmed tornados? Fortunately all we got was lots of heavy rain without much wind damage up our way. Is the Monte going to be your short term residence?

Glad to hear you are safe and that is the main thing, now all those messy details to take care of. Good luck from here.

Sorry to learn of your misfortune. You have a good attitude, though. I hope things can come back together for you smoothly and quickly. Those of us that live in the northeast received a lot of sympathy for the winter we had, but I think I'll take it over what you folks in the mid and southwest have to suffer this time of the year.

Glad you made it thru ok. Lives are the important part. We've been thru a couple of bad storms and the damage they cause both when we had the S&B and in the Monty. I have also been surprised at how the Monty holds up.

How did you survive the storm if your house was about destroyed? Were you home or in a basement??? Glad you are safe.

No basement. Actually the Monty was blocking the house and took the brunt of the force. Probably should have left for a safer area, since we had plenty of warning, but procrastinated too long. Adjuster sending a guy out to take video of the damage this morning. I was more concerned about the Monty than the house actually. Thanks for all the well wishes. Haven't heard if it was a "confirmed" tornado or not yet.

Rob,

We are so happy you came thru the storms relatively unscathed and wish you a quick recovery of the damages. We will keep you in our prayers.

We had just left Livingston on Saturday heading to South Dakota when we saw that severe storms had hit in the south central area. We just missed some really heavy storms in OK as we passed thru OKC to get our step recall taken care of.

Stay safe,

Les and Sue

Thank god you made it through it well and safe. My job had my wife and I in Tanner Alabama, it is a suburb of Huntsville and we almost lost everything due to storms. we were at a campground called swan creek on US 31 just south of Athens Alabama and in 8 hours starting around 3 PM we had over 28 funnel clouds and 5 touch down with 3 of them destroying trailer parks and the north side of Athens and killing 6 people. we watched from the storm shelter a tornado pass with in a mere half mile from us and it was one of the most scariest moments in our lives. Our prayers go out to you your family and your town and hope all will be well again.

Glad you are safe and sound. Stuff can be replaced, but glad things weren't worse on Monte. Hope everything gets repaired quickly.

We were in Oklahoma City last Sunday for the tornado's and 92 mph straight line winds. We were trapped in between tractor trailers on I-35. Floods and terrible destruction all around us but all we got was some hail and some water forced in past the slide seals. When we were able to move we stopped in a supermarket parking lot. It was open but deserted. we left in the morning to witness all the buildings minus their roofs. One RV park a Good Sam Park had every rv in it totaled. We made it home safe though. Glad we don't get weather like that in Northern Mn.
