Gooseneck Adapters
Good morning all, is there anyone towing with a gooseneck adapter? I’m thinking seriously of going with a flatbed and converting the Montana to a gooseneck but I’m concerned about capacity, safety and long term security of using an adapter. Pulling a 3791RD gross about 16K. Thanks in advance.

I have been doing some research on that myself. Look at the goose box it is the only way to use a gooseneck hitch and still maintain frame warranty. The adapters apparently add to much stress to the frame. Hope this helps.

I would go with a Reese goosebox. Only one out there that can say they are endorsed by frame manufacturers

I had the 16k Goosebox on my previous trailer. It was nice for free bed after unhitching. My only complaints over the 4 or 5 years was the air bag would leak air over a few days, with electric jacks I often ran out of extension to clear the ball if I had to level on uneven terrain. Probably not a concern with the hydraulic legs as they are fast and have a lot of range. The other issue was ball alignment. It'd be nice if it had a better capture plate if you were off a inch or so side to side. The ride was good and it reduced chucking. My old trailer teeter-tottered due the location of the trailer axles being a bit too far forward to reduce pin weight. The 379xRD doesn't have this issue.

You might look at the Andersen Ultimate, they have a version for flat beds.
24,000 lb rating and 4500 lb pin weight.

The gooseneck adapters have been discussed ad nauseum over the years. Many claiming ultimate failure of the frame if you use one. No doubt the rigid gooseneck adapters put a rotational force on the pin box to which it was not designed. But having said that, I have never read where anyone actually said they had a frame failure due to using one. And many do use them.
But Lippert has endorsed the Goose box as an acceptable hitch. Which makes sense since it is a Lippert product. So that is the way I would go if you choose to use one. The air bag, shock absorbers, and rubber bumpers apparently eliminate the stresses.
