First trip in new montana 32.9

Loaded the camper to go east of the mountains in Washington State. Took off work early so we could get into the campground early 16 miles from the summit the transmission goes out on the truck. Wife asks if she can put the slide out while we are waiting on the tow truck I said yes might as well be comfortable. Didn't see that the drawer had come open on the desk tore the slide up.Finally made it to the campground at midnight. Commode didn't work per all the forums will have to address that. On the way home the brakes went out on the monty while I was using my buddy's truck. Thanks to the forum I went straight to the problem.. When my son was on his way home in his jeep pulling a small tent trailer a vehicle pulled right out in front of him and he totaled his jeep and the tent trailer.. Oh and while we were at the campground they contaminated the water with E-coli. Didn't tell us for 2 days. Luckily nobody got sick. Other than that the monty was perfect, we have the truck back, short $5500 but we are looking forward to some fall camping.

I'm sorry to hear of all the trouble but it's good to hear nobody got sick or injured.

A dowel rod down through those desk drawer handles will keep them from coming open on you. Ours have never opened anyhow, even before we started using the dowel rod a few months ago. Make sure the male side of the latch is perfectly centered with the female side so both springs hold it closed. I'd recommend the dowel rod in any case. You cannot see if that drawer has opened until the slide is opened enough for you to walk back there. We also use a dowel through the cabinet handles, above the desk. Same reason.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

Well a bad day at camping is better than a good day at work
We got some of those child protective locks for drawers in the baby department at Wally World to stop those doors from coming open.

WOW - better luck on the next outing.....If you're superstitious - they say bad things happen in 3's you had 6 incidents so you should be trouble free in the future.

Sorry to hear about all the problems on your first trip. It's good to know that things you read about on the MOC helped the situation though. You sound like you have a good attitude though and it can only get better from here! Safe travels.

Aaaarrrrrggggg!! Bummer!! Thanks for the pick-me-up, you know, somebody had a worse day than you, so your day looks a lot better. Fits the story of a man, who had no shoes, complaining until he saw a man who had no feet. Glad the forum was a help for you. You sound like a person who rolls with the punches. Better RVing ahead....

That is one bad trip! Glad everyone is ok, though.

We have season tickets to the Washington State University Cougar football games so have taken various trailers to eastern WA many, many times. Snoqualmie is a major mountain pass and lots can go wrong. We never had a problem pulling the trailer over the pass, but have plenty of troubles with cars through the years--in good weather and bad.

Hopefully, your next trip over the pass will be totally uneventful!

ufdede, my reaction to your post was like that of Stiles: you must be a person who "rolls with the punches". I must say I admire your equanimity under the circumstances you describe, and wish I could be more like that.

Hope the future holds many wonderful days for you and your family.

Hi, Mike--we purchase the option of RV parking in the Coliseum parking lot. Costs $200 per year and you have to have season tickets. It is a blast! If you are in Pullman for any of the games, come see us!

There is also camping in the lower lot past Ferdinands. Newly paved and quite nice. Available on a first come, first served basis.

I really appreciate all of the input I will check out the latches and look into the dowel rods before we go again. Sorry I haven't been on line for a while. Went out of town to help my son with his house. He lives about 90 miles from us in Monroe. We decided to take the truck to put some miles on before we hooked the trailer up. Sure glad we did, it is back in the shop with more transmission problems Maybe it will come out good this time. Thanks to all who responded. I am at a point in my life where if no one is hurt everthing else will work out, it is just another experience in life.
