Winterizing

I blew the lines out and added about three gallons of pink antifreeze to the lines in October. I thought the job was pretty thorough until I noticed a film of ice on the pink water in the toilet. When I added more antifreeze, the stuff came spewing out under the rig. Removal of the white panel in the basement revealed a broken water filter housing. It was easy to find a new housing at the local RV store, where I was advised to drain the filter housing after winterizing. This is a lesson learned for me.

Your rig didn't come stock with a water filter did it?

Barry & Ellen,
This is kind of like closing the barn door after the horse is already out, but here is a link to a detailed checklist for winterizing using the compressed air method: Winterizing Checklist. You might also want to check out the winterizing video on the Keystone website. Here is the link to that: http://www.keystonerv.com/?page=video_library Just click on the "Winterize your RV" video to the right on that page.

yes it came with the filter stock. I was surprised when I pulled the panel and saw it.

Jack,
Thanks for the references, but I was familiar with them. Evidently I was not thorough enough with my winterizing procedure. I didn't know the rig had a filter.

Barry,
Where exactly is your filter. I want to check to see if there is one on mine because if there is, I missed it when I winterized.

The filter is behind the convenience center. Remove the white panel to the rear of the basement to access it. It's about a foot from the city water inlet hose connection.
