Which Hitch

Bought a Silverado 3500 DRW this week and now trying to filter thru all the articles on which hitch to install. Please your help in deciding which one to install, i.e. Curt Q5 or Reese. Monty being pulled is Model 3455.

We tow with a Trailer Saver #TS3 air hitch. We like it alot.

We have pulled since '01 with a Reese and have been very happy. Right off the bat, I'd recommend a Bed-Saver attachment for the hitch, whichever you decide on.

We use the Curt Q5 20,000 lb hitch and like it a lot. plus it is low enough to use the tonneu cover over it when not in use.

Reese 16k since 1995 never a problem

I have the Curt Q5 ... like it much better than my old Reese. The encapsulated bearing, shaft, and bumper system that allows the head to tilt on 360 degrees of its axis is very beneficial. It will fit right on Reese rails. The release arm has color coded position indicators making it near impossible to hitch up wrong. With this hitch I see no need for a bedsaver that many have installed.

First, congratulations on your new truck...regarding hitches, we have the Reese 16k hitch and it has done a good job for us.

Now that everybody has said how wonderful their hitches are, here are some considerations:

- If you want to remove it when not towing, get one that comes out in two pieces...makes it easier to handle.
- If you have a tonneau cover, make sure the handle either folds down when locked, or comes off, otherwise the tonneu cover cannot be used.
- Although a given on most 16k and larger hitches, be sure the head has four way tilt.
- For some reason these hitches, of the same capacity, seem to vary greatly in price...shop around for the best price.

Hooker covered how to decide. Then seek the brands that offers it and decide how much you want to pay.

Other considerations re:

- if you remove the hitch will you be bothered by the bed rails or would you prefer flat (I have bed rails, ugh)
- Do you want an air hitch? With air it improves the ride with the trailer even if you have air bags at the springs which improves the ride with the truck.
- Are you gonna want a bed saver? What vendors provide a bed saver for the hitch you pick, or at least I recall Blue Ox will be glad to fit you for one in trade for them to be able to sell what they build for you.
- Thank God it seems you don't need a slider or the list will get longer.

These along with Hooker's list help to determine what you want, then it'll be a matter of which features go away if you don't want to pay for them.

Reese Slider on our TV with a Blue Ox Bedsaver(best insurance you can get)! You didn't mention whether you have a full bed or shortbed so if you have the shortbed the slider is a must especially for your piece of mind and not having to go to the body shop to replace the rear window and take out the dents on both the TV and the Monte from to sharp of a turn or backing problem! If your Monte is newer with the new front cap it helps but the slider is my choice on our shortbed!
