3750FL cooling question

Hi all,

Getting warm here in Dallas and our new 3750FL does not seem to get as cool as our other Montanas did. This is our first front living room unit, the bedroom stays cool but the living room reache into the 80s during the heat of the day regardless of what I do to reduce the load on both air conditioners.

What I am wondering is - anyone else with a front living area experiencing the same issue and what have you done to correct it? I did not get slide toppers like usual on this model, went into full time mode early and did not get a chance to install them. Other than that, we are operating as we usually do.

Sure can use some advice.

If you look at the duct work, you will see that it does not extend into the living room area, there is a vent at the partition header between the kitchen/dining room area and the living room but it does not blow a whole lot of air since it is at the end of the duct work. The noisy solution is to open the quick cool damper on the bottom of the ac in the kitchen area. I am fortunately six feet tall and can reach it with a case knife. Another solution would be to supplement the air flow in the rig with a fan pointing to the living room area. We have a fantastic fan in the living room which when used draws a little more air up that way and allows an escape route for the upper level warmer air. Hope this helps.

This seems strange. If it was a bedroom up front it would have air ducting wouldn't it? Wonder why they didn't put air up where most folks are going to spend a lot of time? Hope they end up changing this, not that it will do any of us any good...

They changed the ceiling to an arched ceiling to provide additional head room. On our 3400 I had to duck in portions of the bedroom because of the ceiling height.

Bingo,
I do have 2 ducts in the front living area, maybe previous editions did not. Air does flow to these ducts but not all that strong. Obviously, heat rises and the front living is the highest part of the rig so it gets the hottest. I am thinking there is insufficient insulation in the front cap - thoughts?

If you have ceiling ducts, that is an improvement over ours. There was a previous post regarding adding dampers to the air conditioning vents that may allow you to direct more air to the front of the rig. Just a thought.

It didn't really get hot here yet, but I haven't had any problems in middle 80s heat. And our model (2012) has 2 ducts about 18 inches from the front wall with plenty of airflow when keeping the dump closed. Probably get a better test this weekend as temps are expected in the L to mid 90s.
I do have slide toppers also.

So I'm curious now. Anyone have a 2011 with the arched roof that is a front bedroom?? Do you have AC ducts up there?

I have a 2011 3580RL with the arched roof throughout and I do have A/C ducts in the front bedroom.

Thanks Don. Okay, so it was either limited to just the 3750 not having front air ducts, or there is such low air flow out of them that Bingo just thought they were speakers

If it is a big enough problem you could install a 3rd A/C to directly dump in the living room. It would be pretty simple to run its own power cord. I did this on my previous camper for a 2nd A/C that only had 30 amp service. You run a cord with a locking plug in the conveinience center. Plug into the campground's post in another outlet (they all mostly have 50/30/20). It worked great for me on my last unit. Then you will be cool.

My 2011 3750FL has 4 ducts in the ceiling up front and they blow hard and cold. I only have one ac unit and it cools the rig just fine.
Might want to get it looked at.

I have vertical vents at the partition header between the kitchen/dining room area and the living room. We have slide toppers and I believe that makes a big difference. They reflect the heat and keeps the sun from directly hitting the top of the slides. We also turn the ceiling fan on low to keep the air moving. Never had to open the fantastic fan vent, but that is an option and I would only open it very little.

Okay, weird... One 2011 with none and one with four, and one with vertical vents... Then a 2012 with only two. They must have been experimenting with what worked best??

Here is a photo of our living room ceiling with no air conditioner vents. The air for the living room originates above the steps at the end of the kitchen/dining area. There is a decorative fascia-type header that drops down about four inches from the living room ceiling (the edge is visible just behind the fan globe) and contains two vertical vent openings that are slotted into the wood itself. I don't have a picture of that.

The last horizontal ac vent can be seen just behind the ceiling fan.

It is very strange. Mine blows so cold that when sitting on the couches you have to turn the vents towards the kitchen area or you actually get cold from the air blowing on you. I'll try and take a picture of them for comparison sake.

So I just took a photo on my phone I don't know how to post it because I don't have computer with me. But i lied in my first post. I don't have 4 vents only two. They are situated right between the lights on the ceiling. They are about 6 inch circles with slots and are adjustable as far as where they blow the air. My wife always complains she is freezing up there. If anyone wants to see it you can pm me an email address and I can email you the photo, ill post it on here when we get back.

Ref: the Living room on 3750 being warmer. I found our bed room at nose of trailer was warmer than the rest of the trailer. I contributed it to heat rising and since the bed room ceiling is the highest point it got warmer there. We would close the pocket door (your 3750 does not have one) to keep the heat out before going to bed.
Best of luck and safe towing.
