5th Wheel Tripods

I'm asking the group for input on use of the tripod at the kingpin and your best judgement to use or not to. I haven't got one but noticed some with and some without a tripod for stability. Dennis

Ditto and feel it really helps reduce shake when we walk inside. Better stated, takes out the wiggle.

I have one and use it when set up for more than a few days. I feel it was well worth the investment.

We have a Tri-pod and it stabilizes the RV alot. If you get one, get one that can be adjusted without a lot of trouble.

Is there a preference for an aluminum or steel tripod?

I have one and consider it worse than useless. It is in my storage garage and I am willing to give it to anyone who will carry it away. I am in the Phoenix area. If you are near and want it drop me an e-mail.

I bought one when I bought the rig. I have not camped without it so I don't know if there is a difference..

I have one and used it until I installed Plugitright stabilizers and then found it unnecessary, so it sets in the home base storage shed.

I have an aluminum one - in the basement of the stick house. I'm trying to find a use for it, but haven't come up with one.

I am far more impressed with the JT stabilizer stability than I ever was with the tripod. A good part of the wiggle is from the side travel on the tires. A stabilizer system gets rid of that, as well as wiggle in the landing gear.

We use it, the rig shakes less in the wind with a little tension on the nose. Easy to set up, rides in the truck bed while we're traveling. When in storage it deters a crook who might just hook up and steal our rig since it locks the kingpin.

After a year on the road we got one and wouldn't be without it. Along with the wheel chokes really takes out the wiggle in the Monty when we walk inside.

We do use it when set up for a long time(like now) it helps a little bit, not much (IMO). If I had it to do over again I would spend the money for something more useful.

I do not have the tripod, because It will not work with a pin set that has a air bag or shock in it. I have the 5th Airborne Sidewinder pin set. But do have the JT Stablizers.

We use ours with a TrailAir pin box, works just fine.

I bought a Tripod and used it twice. There wasn't much difference so we installed JTs Strong arm Stabilizer and it's like night and day. We would not be without them.

It all depends on how much the wiggle in the trailer bothers you. A kingpin stabilizer will eliminate some but not all. if you are really bothered then you need the JT stabilizer

I use a king pin stabilizer. Steel. That took out about 60% of the wiggle and shake for me. The wheel chocks that fit between the tires took out another 10 or so. Tried them together and apart, the kingpin stabilizer had the most effect.

I had one for several years and never noticed any difference whether being used or not. Cost me over $100 and I gave it away after hauling it in the back of the truck for miles and miles. Just didn't seem to help any. We have found that the little bit of "wiggle" or "shake" or any kind of movement is minimal. With Roto-Choks between the wheels and the back stabilizers snugged up tight, any movement is so slight as hardly noticeable. There's bound to be a little movement because of the spring action of the rig and probably the only way to get rid of most of any kind of movement is to either set the rig on cement blocks or use JT's Stabilizers. If you're weight conscious you have to remember that everything you add to the rig makes it heavier.
