Vicious Attack from Closet Latch
Thought we were doing so good because our closet door latches haven't broken. For the past several weeks while getting the Monty loaded up I kept getting cuts on my arm. Could not figure out what it was, didn't hurt much, just bleed. Well this morning I was putting stuff away in the very back corner of the closet and it attacked me. I mean it took a chunk out of my arm big time. Hurt like H###, still does some 8 hours later. Think I'll put some foam on the corner of the latch.
Happy trails....................

Appreciate the heads (arm??) up, sounds like maybe I will have to get a rasp out and get rid of the sharp edges (I'll try that anyway)

Sue, go to a good Montana dealer and you can get the ones that are in the Big Sky. Easy to install. So much better. When do you HIT the road?

What's the difference between the Big Sky latch and the Monty latch?. (Pic's?)(P/N's)
I was at the dealer today and he claims both use the same cheap plastic latch.
Thanks,
Ken

Sue,
We had the same problem with ours, When we are on the road, there's not much one can do, short of reversing the doors so they don't lock up everytime I close the doors, but if we are stopped for a week or more, I just unscrew them and put them in the drawer closest to the door. It is a bit of a pain, but worth it to me, not to get "bit" by the door.

I took the advice someone posted here on MOC and put some small o-rings over the screws, between latch and doorframe. That makes them open and close much easier. I'm wondering if that also would provide enough give to not rip your arms when you bump them?

I got "bit" by the latch corners a few times also. Took them off and rounded off the offending sharp corners with a Dremel tool sander disk. Any sandpaper will work fine, I just happened to have that tool handy.
Worked fine from then on..also, I do like the idea of the rubber O-rings mentioned above..sounds like a good idea..

I also removed them and rounded the corners off. When I re-installed them, I moved them up to a position just slightly below the shelf so we would be less apt to hit them. It has worked out well for us.
