A newbie question: Where are these "wet bolts"?

I keep reading about "wet bolts", and really don't know what they are. I am assuming they are somewhere on the suspension.

They are the pivot pins connecting the springs to the frame via pieces of metal called shackles. Instead of plastic bushings with just a plain bolt, 'wet bolts' refer to bronze or brass bushings with bolts that have a hole drilled part way through from one end and then have another hole cross drilled about centered where the center of the spring would be, then a zerk fitting is installed enabling grease to be applied to lubricate the bolt to bushing surfaces. This makes for a very durable system as long as grease is applied on a regular basis.

Welcome,
The "wet bolts" are in the spring end shackles. There are grease Zerks in the ends of the bolts for lubrication. A very valuable addition.

You don't say what year rig you have. On the new rigs they come already on. On older model rigs you had to add them. If you didn't have them, overtime sometimes not very much, the bushings would fail and the bolt holes would enlarge. Wet bolts, greased regularly, eliminate that issue. In addition, the wet bolt system is generally more substantial than the old regular bolt system.

Thanks again everyone! I have a 2013 3400rl. I picked it up right before Thanksgiving last year. I'm going out to peek under it right now! I only have about 1400 miles on the rig so far, so suppose I'll grease them before the winter storage.

I'd grease them now. There's no guaranty they were greased at the factory.

6 zerks on each side. You might have a issue getting the gun on the zerk, thus the previous discussion about angled replacement zerks. If you do change the zerks out a bit of blue loctite on the threads can be your friend.

Read here http://www.morryde.com/aftermarket/r...pgrade-23.html

While not a wet bolt zerk, there is a zerk under the rubber cap on the axle end. Unless you totally understand why it is there, DO NOT GREASE THAT ZERK That is a completely different thread.
