ac ceiling vents

Many thanks to Ozz for the great pics and all those that gave input! I took down all 8 of the vents. The base protruded too far into the ducts, so I cut them down. There was lots of sawdust and general dirt, the aluminum tape that was used to seal the ducts to the ceiling was mostly blown upright and further blocking the ducts due to sawdust preventing the tape from sticking, and I didn't break any of the vent covers! I did use thin ca glue in each of the screw holes and let it dry as a means of "hardening" the ceiling material to prevent screw pullout or stripping of threads in the thin ceiling material. Question to the the other 3800re owners: are there any more than the four vents in the living room/kitchen, two over the island and two between the ceiling fan and the fantasic vent? Just want to make sure the assembly person didn't forget to cut in two near the rear entertainment center. John

We don't have a 3800, but our 3585SA (2012) has 6 vents between the living room (4) and kitchen (2). I had previously done this mod on our 2008 3400RL and it helped very much. When I started to do our current unit I found that they did not protrude into the duct at all. I only examined 2 of them...maybe I should have done them all.

We have a 3582RL and we have 4 AC vents in the living/kitchen area, 1 vent in the shower area (hall between kitchen and bedroom and 2 ac vents in the bedroom. I cleaned all of the sawdust out of the fresh air vents but did not check the ac vents. It seems like AC working better since cleaning out the air inlet vents and also opened up the area that the insulation had closed up the vent. I guess I will have to check the AC vents also.
