Help a newbie.

I am about to purchase a 2010 Model 3150RL. I am just wanting to check and see how much space I really will have in my RV garage once I put it in there. I think I built it plenty big enough when I built a new house two years ago. It is 40", has a 12' door opening and the interior walls are 20' side.

Anyway, here are the dimensions for the Model as cited in the product brouchure:

The width is listed as 8". Is that accurate and how much wider will it be with all three slide out open?

Also, it is listed a 34' 5". Is that a precise measurement? And, is that the measure from the very front of the tongue to the very back of fifth wheel? Sure hope that isn't the distance from the front of the living space to the back of the living space.

I think your problem is going to be the 12 ft door opening. Most of these are 12'6" or a tad higher. The rest should be fine if you can squeeze it under the door...

Racerjoe is correct, it will not go into the garage with a 12' door. Your model lists at 12'9". If you add Maxairs or similar to cover your vents, you will be above 13 feet. Our slides add five feet to the overall width when extended (RL3400). 40 foot length will be plenty.

I'm thinking the same as Racerjoe and Bingo that your problem will be your height especially if you put the front air conditioner on. You being from Louisiana I'm willing to bet that you did or that you will. I look for 13 ft. 6 inches minimum for proper clearance with the front AC unit.

The slides should open about 44 inches for your living room slide and about 30 inches for your kitchen slide. So I would allow about 6 ft additional with your slides open.

My barn door is 14 feet high and 14 feet wide. I clear the height by about 9 inches. The barn is 44 feet deep (outside measurment, 6 inch walls) and I have about 3 feet in front and back. Add about 6 feet for the slides side to side.

How are you at remodelling? As others stated the 12' door opening is not enough. Don't you hate it when that happens????

Thank you for all of your replies. Next time I will not rely on my memory. After reading your posts I grabbed my tape measure, sprinted to the garage and (thankfully) saw that I had a 13' 10" door opening. For a while there I thought I was just going to let all the air out of my tires to get the 5er in the garage. I still wish I would have made it a little taller though.

Remember that any vent covers you may add will raise your height. With MaxAir covers you may have a small amount to clear. On average, about 8-9" over factory measurements.

What about the 34' 5" advertised length....is the listed lenght the actual full length from the the tongue to the very back of the fifth wheel?

Yep! At 40', your Montana will be comfy. The first time you park it and you are satisfied with its location, anchor 2 sets of doubled up 2x4's so you know you wont go back too far. It will also keep it from being pushed back (to a point) if you forget to open the hitch (happened to me-long story).

I have the floor marked with white tape in the shape of an L and put the trailers rear wheel in the L when I back it in. I also never back in without a spotter.

Your 13' 10" should be adequate for clearance. My 3400RL was 13' 5" to the Highest point (two AC's) with the trailer level on the ground. What I should have measured was the highest point when hitched to the TV. There can be a few inches difference there. But I was comfortable with overpasses. Remember that 99% of the boxes towed by a tractor (18 wheeler) are 13' 6" to the roof of the box.

The best method I found for finding the height is to use a laser level. Make sure it is at the highest point and level it. Use a steel tape and measure from he laser point it hits on the tape - to the ground.

I believe you will find your length to be from the forward part of the king pin to the outside of the rear ladder. If you only have one AC then adding a second AC, that is 9" in height will put you at the 13' 6" height.

Measure twice! Read all height signs (including one on the barn) twice - if you are not going to fast when you pass them.

I think your sizes are all fine. The 13' 10" door will work but 12' would not, as others said. Just for your ease of mind, our actual measured length is 39' 1". That's furtherst point forward to furtherst rearward (ladder). Our actual measured height is 12' 10" (tires full!). We have two AC units but the front one is a low profile Coleman Polar Mach. I have not measured total width but the rig should be about 8 feet plus slides. The opposing entertainment slide and dining slide are 38 inches and 40 inches respectively. If the main body is 8 feet, then our overall width is 14 1/2 feet. Good luck.

You are lucky to have a large door. When we built our pole barn,about 9 years ago,for the 5th wheel and other reasons,we put in 12 foot doors,our 5th wheel at the time was "only" 10'6" high. Then I thought to myself,"self",you will NEVER have an RV that will be over 11' tall, so nothing to worry about!!! at least that what I thought... So,what do we do 5 years later,you guessed it, buy a pretty new Montana,again thinking to myself,"self" this looks tall,but should not be over 11'6". Thats what I get for not reading the spec sheet. Oh well, at least we like our Montana. and we have a lot more room in the barn in the winter.

we have the 3150 and If i remember right we came up with almost 36 feet--measurement is not with me right now. I tell campgrounds we are 37 to 38 feet long to make sure they don't try to put us in a spot too tight.
