driving time
Well now that I'm 55 I find that I can't drive 13 hrs even if my wife is driving some of the time. So my question is how many hours do you drive a day and if you don't mind how old are you? This is one thing I'm learning as I get older.

I will be turning 54 in a couple of weeks and have been retired for almost four years.
My driving habits depend on many factors - end point, terrain, towing or not towing, and purpose.
When I tow, I try to drive no more than 8-9 hours or less than 500 miles depending on the terrain. The more the hills I travel the less the distance. I should also mention that most of my towing is in the Southwest where the roads are much more open between major towns. If there is minimal precipitation, this typically ensures driving during the daytime, too.
If I am not towing I can go much further, 10-12 hours or up to about 700 miles (since the speed is generally much faster).
As I advance in age, I definitely don't drive as far as I used to especially when towing. I have enough elderly friends and have read enough reports recommending stopping to walk around to keep the circulation going and preventing blood clots. But each person will be different depending on their physical makeup, age and conditioning. For me, I won't drive more than 12 hours any more nor want to sit in a vehicle for longer than that.
Happy trails!

Older, first you have got to get older...55...55 why when I was 55 I could drive all day..party all night and start over again in the morning.... I slept on thursday's
I am 72..Helen is 57. We share the driving. We drive as long a distance or as short a distance as we feel like. 200/300 miles a day is about average but we have no goals.

I'm 68 and find myself comfortable at 250 miles give or take 50. I'll plan the stop the night before departure and try to keep it within that range. So that is about 6 hours on the road including stops. I did recently run from Pensacola Fl to Mayport FL and that was a haul.
Now, find your own comfort zone and try to stick to it. After all, what's the rush. If I drove 13 hours I'd have to spend two night recuperating from the fatig.
Oh! I recently cut my speed down to 55 mph from 65 mph and gained almost 2 mpg more in economy, so my times may be a little longer for the same distance, but I'm more relaxed at the lower speed.

46 years younng, and I plan my trips on the amount of daylight I have. Not a big fan of setting up in the dark, at a location I have never been to.

On the road by 8 AM and off by 3:30. Drive at 65MPH and will make frequent rest stops as well as fuel stops. I am 66.

I am 54 and try not to haul more than 300 miles on any given day. We usually plan a 30 minute rest stop somewhere in the middle to walk the dogs, grab a snack and just relax a bit. We are slowly learning to slow down our speed and miles travelled and just enjoy the ride.

I am 62 and prefer 200 to 300 miles per day. I can do more if necessary and have twice done 800 miles with the usual meal and relief stops. But I was pretty well shot after those trips. Those were definitely exceptions. Normally 200 to 300 is plenty. We're not usually in a hurry. After all, we don't have to get back to work or anything else except maybe granddaughter birthdays.

Leave campsite or homesite when ready, campsites usually about 9:30 AM, missing all the rush hour for the workers.
Like to do between 150 and 330 miles per day, depending on types of roads, and how we feel.
Lunch on the road where ever we can get in, like truck stops, but, depending on weather and other issues, will do the mickeedee type stop. Rarely eat in the rig for lunch, but have.
Stop every 1.5 to 2.5 hours, stretch, and stretch again.
Stop before dark.
age, over 55, under 65. (You think I am gonna tell?? )

53 in Nov. Retired, kind of. Don't like to do more than 250 - 300 a day. Try to keep my speed in low 60's most of the time I watch my tach for the lowest rpm i can get. I don't need to be anywhere in a hurry.

I will be 67 this month. I can push the time/distance if there is a reason but 6 hours or less is good for me. If heavy traffic the time is definitely less. I have learned to slow down and enjoy the scenery & life and not worry about making reservations.

I am 57, Drive approx. 300 plus miles a day depending on road conditions and weather. Plan my trip a day ahead of time and call ahead to the RV park(s) of my choice to see if space is available. I also like to plan my fuel stops as well. I don't like leaving things to chance. Also tire changes, getting parts, tows or any breakdowns are harder to deal with after dark.

We try to keep it down to 10am to 2pm, a little longer some days a little less other days. 6 hours is about the limit though... Dave and Betsy

I'm 56 and like to drive 300 miles or less per day. Also am an early riser. If we are traveling interstate, I will be on the road by 7:30 or so which means a stop for the day around 1:30. I like to set up in the afternoon and relax for a bit, take a swim if they have a pool. Stop every two hours for the myself and the furry kids.

I'M 61 and do around 200-350 miles per day. Coming from Alaska two years ago I did 475 and 490 back to back and had to rest a full day after that so only averaged 300 a day anyway, just saved one night camping fee, Big Deal..... You will find your numbers soon enough, just don't push it too hard. SAFETY FIRST!!!!!!! Good Luck.....

Well, since we're talking about age, I'm 77, Marge is 69. Personally, no matter what your age, if you're pushing 800-900 miles a day towing, that's too much. A person may feel they can do it, but believe me your reflexes aren't as good after 500-600 miles as they are at 300-400 miles. I realized I'm speaking for myself and know there are a lot of people who can really push it and seem to be okay. Not for me!

59. My limiting factor is my knees. I have to stop every few hours or else the pain becomes too annoying. When it gets to the point that stopping doesn't help, it's time to set up camp. The norm is eight to nine hours.

I am 64 and drive less than that in mph. The distance between the breaks depends on the amount of coffee consumed. 200-400 miles a day is plenty for us. I do all the driving when towing.
