Roof Maintenance
I was wondering what the members use for roof treatment and how often. There is "dicor", "protect all',and a new called "Hengs". Have a new trailer and want to make sure I'm giving it the best care.

At the fall rallys, Dicor has said use Dawn dish soap for the roof. They also say that further treatment is not needed but, if we must buy a treatment, buy theirs.

I have been using Thetford Rubber Roof Cleaner and Conditioner once a year and just warm water and a brush a couple of other times. I think you will get lots of answers as to how it is cleaned and protected by others.

I use that as well. I scrub the roof at least 4 or more times per season with Thetfords which keeps it really clean and actually sparkly.

As Jim and Carol said in their post-- Dawn dish soap and water! The Dawn is to be the original "blue" Dawn! The others have additives that are scented and will draw the birds and etc thus causing them to "possibly" peck holes into the roof which is not a good thing! After you wash it off make sure you hose the sides down also! There are a few other threads on this subject if you go into the search engine I thik you'll find more on this subject. Always after you wash your unit inspect your joints on the top, edges, and around all vents and etc for any cracks. If you see any cracks use the proper sealant on those. Don't use regular caulk from a hardware store because it will not bond as it is suppose too on the rubber roof and other caulks!

I too use Thetford Rubber Roof Cleaner and Contioner, but use it at the end of the season and also at the begining. Otherwise, I just wash with soap and water.

I will go with what the manufacturer of the product (Dicor) says. Original Blue Dawn is all it requires. They will sell you some exensive stuff if you insist but will tell you it is not needed.
