Bed Replacement

Hello all. Do any of you have a "Sleep Number - r5" bed in your 5'er in place of the factory bed? If so, are you happy with it and glad that you replaced the original factory bed? Looking forward to your replies!

We've had a Sleep Number bed for 4 years. Love it. Brought it from our Montana to our current rig

Great to here. You didn't mention if your's is the r5 RV model or a regular residential model. Which do you have? Which do you recommend?

Don't know what exactly an R5 is, but we have the Radius Corner King that is now in it's third unit, and it's over 6 years old now.

We also have the Sleep Number King with the radius corners for campers and love it! Had them in our house for years before going full time in the Montana.

Just remember if you are traveling and going to be going through different elevations the pressure in the bed will go up or down with the elevation. If you go higher be sure to lower the pressure before heading up there or the bed might over pressurize and blow a leak. We forgot to lower it once and climbed several thousand feet higher and the bed was like a rock!

We are in the process of purchasing a Montana 3811MS with King Bed. We have had Sleep Number beds at home for 10 years and love them. My question is can you have the adjustable base with a Sleep Number bed in this 5th Wheel?

Might depend on floor plan and if it would cause and issues closing slides.

We have a 3820fl and changed out the stock bed for an adjustable base bed with no issues. We had to get one that was lighter than the model we have at home, but no biggie there. Wouldn't be without it!

We have a 2007 3400RL and purchased a residential king Sleep Number bed within weeks of taking delivery in July of 2006. Tleep number didn't make RV beds back then. The OEM bed was crap. I had to add a layer of plywood on to the bed base to support it, it is not easy to make the bed because it really fills up the bedroom, but we felt (and still do) that it was worth it. We always reduce the setting to the lowest before travel/storage, and in our rig someone has to lift the end of the bed before completely closing the bedroom slide or it will "crunch" the base cabinet on the sink. I will never own an RV without a Sleep Number bed and have one in my stick house too. The thing I hate most about traveling when not in the RV is I have yet to find a hotel bed anywhere that I sleep as well on as the Sleep Number. Just my $0.02.

Our 2009 3075RL was delivered with a cheap king bed. It sounded like is was lined in plastic and there was no room on the front closet wall so peeing in the night or making it up in the morning was a real pain in the arse. I looked at a lot of replacement beds and could not justify the cost. I found a mattress recycler here in Denver that takes the best of the best and re-manufacures beds. Colorado Comfort provided us with a top quality recycled queen bed made from the best of the best with a new outer cover for $240.
The bed was basically made from a return from one of the big manufacturers, cleaned and sanitized and a new outer cover put on while we watched.
We have a high dollar mattress in the house and a sleep number for our guest room and the $240 reman sleeps as good as both of them.
I don't know whether this is available in other large cities but if you're in Denver check them out. A great bed for a bargain price.

When we got our unit we put a memory foam topper from Costco on top of the cheap factorymattress. It worked pretty good. Last year we were going to be in the trailer for 9 months so thought I would upgrade. Ordered memory foam mattress from Costco. 10" inheight and must be close to 100#. Was a bit firm to our liking so got one of those egg crate foam toppers and found it to be very comfortable. Only downside was the weight.
This year we ordered another one from Costco for our house and got one modelup which is 14" high. Very comfortable and no topper required. Was heavier though and wouldn't want the extra weight for the trailer.

I agree, the memory foam beds are heavy. I would rather carry batteries than bed. I'm glad you found a solution that is comfortable. We sleep on a Costco 14" MF in the house. Great bed.
