Kodiak Disc Brakes

I just finished the installation of Kodiak disc brakes and it really wasn't that much to it. Will someone please tell me why I waited so long? These things are GREAT!

Sure beat paying some outfit $800 - $1000 labor for something relatively easy huh? What did you think of the "special" wheel seals for the oil bath?

How long did it take you and did you need any specialized tools? I really wish keystone would go with the disk brakes or at least make them an option as I know I would be fine paying the extra money to get them. I guess if I am wishing I might as well include the independent suspension also. :-)
I am sure you will be happy with them.

I took my time and have about 10 hours invested in the install. If you go to Morryde to have them installed with the IS be prepared to pay dearly for them. I have 2 friends that told me they paid Morryde $3500 for installed disc brakes ONLY! I have $1550 invested in mine plus my time of course. I'm retired and have plenty of time. No special tools were required.

I was really disappointed that I was unable to use the oil bath kits due to them being too small for my hubs. I ordered the larger of the 2 kits Kodiak offers and was told by trailer that they would work. They're being returned.

Hummnnn ... I always thought 5.2K - 7K axles built after 1997 that have the infamous EZ lube grease zerk had the same wheel seals (3.375" OD by 2.250" ID) The axles prior to that time had seals with 2.125" ID's. If the seal land on your spindle does measure 2.25" ... the Prolube 2440 kits work ... they are just considerably harder to get on as that part doesn't turn like your old lip seals.

The seal was the proper size but the metal part of the "dust cover" was too small. It just bottomed out on the outer bearing race when I tried a test fit.

I'm very curious about these disc brakes. How did you decide which brake setup to get for the 7000# axles? Is there some sort of hydraulic reservoir for fluid, like a car? I'm pretty handy with tools, so the install seems simple. I'm a few months out from getting our Monty, but If I have the funds available now to purchase and install it when we bring it home, seems like a good idea.

I decided on the Kodiak disc brakes with "E-coating" because of their popularity, customer ratings, and they fit my budget. The brakes are driven by an electric over hydraulic actuator that has a built-in fluid reservoir. I chose the Hydrator HBA-16 actuator again because of the same reasons except the e-coating. For more information about what is available I recommend trailer.com. Eastern marine.com is also a good source.
