Many of the places we camp at only offer 30 amp service. Is there an adapter that will allow me to plug in my 30 amp cord into the 50 amp recpticle on my rig. I would like not to have to drag along that 100lb 50 amp cable if I'm not going to be using it.

The best thing we ever did was to replace our 50 amp cord with a 30 amp cord, even though the cost was around $128.00. That 50 amp cord is hard to handle and getx even more difficult in cold weather. Our heavier cord has found a home in our storage shed.

We too replaced ours with a 3amp cord...it is so much better than lugging that 50 amp around.

Yes this adaptor Marinco Park Power 50-Amp Adapter 12" Cord found on the Campingworld web page will let you use the 30 amp service and run the 30 amp cord.

Somebody posted this link a while back and I ordered that same Marinco 30amp cord from them for $79.95 or something similar to that. I would try them firsts and save yourself $50 from CW.

I made up my own 50/30 25' cord. but the following looks good and it is cheaper than what I paid just for the parts.

We use the adapter H. John Kohl mentioned whenever we are in a campground that doesn't have 50 amp service. Camping World had it on sale for $59.95 a couple of months ago. It's a pretty good solution, but we still drag out the big cord when 50 amp service is available. It's nice to be able run everything at once and not worry about brownout.

We agree with Bob and Jan. Better to have enough without having to worry. Same reason we have a 3500 dually.

I use the adapter H. John Kohl's link shows. I've used it for years. 95% of the time I use that adapter rather than drag out the 50 amp cord.

With the electrical setup on our early-2003 Montana, we can run everything on 30 amps that we could run on 50 amp. The newer Montanas have a better electrical setup so the situation may be different but 30 amps will still work just fine for any Montana for many situations. There may be times you need 50 amps.

We can run the washer, the dryer, and the AC unit all at the same time on a 30 amp connection. To run the microwave we'll pause one of those.

In other words, for our setup, 30 amps is plenty.

If I remember correctly, if you don't get the washer/dryer option or the second A/C, the 30amp service is standard on our 3400. Since we received the prep for both, ours is 50 amp. We switched to the 30 amp cord and save the weight and space. We have not run into any issues with 30 amps. We watched the Camping World sales and got a similar price to above last year.

More and more campgrounds particularly those that want to stay in business, do have or will have 50 amp service.We do have the 2nd A/C but figure we will still only use 30 amp service most of the time and we do have 25 feet 30 amp cable from our previous camper.We also MAY at a future date get the Washer/Dryer.

I agree, that 50a. cord is like handling a stick of rebar when it's cold. We use the 30a. cord, but have the 50, too, in case we need the extra amps or have to put two cords together to reach the power source.

When we did the PDI on our unit the guy never told us that the round laundry basket was for the heavy 50 amp cord so we stuck that cord in the basement storage like a Boa with an attitude. I learned of the basket's cord storage ability through this fabulous web sit and now the 50 amp over kill is stored with the 30 amp cord which still fits in the basket.
