Furnace Removal

I am having trouble with my Atwood 8535IV furnace not lighting and I am thinking changing the control board and electrode will correct the problem. My Montana is a 2006 model and the furnace is located in the basement compartment and it does not have an exterior access door to the furnace. It looks like I will have to totally remove the furnace to work on it. Has anyone done this project and can lean me any advise before i start the work? All advise would be great appreciated.

It has been a while since I removed my furnace on my 2002 2955RL
Their were two screws that held it to the floor removed flex duct work disconnected Gas Line and Electric connections the unit then just slid out.I remember the most difficult thing was trying to reconnect the wiring not a lot of room.My problem was a nest of Mud Dobbers bythe Sq cage fan!
Good Luck

I had a problem with the furnace not lighting. One of the members (Ozz) told me to remove the low voltage fuse turn it over and put it back in. Seems crazy but it worked and I never had another problem. Also check the fuse to be sure it is not blown. The furnace runs on the 12 volts system.

I had an issue in my campers heater. It would call for heat and then time out because the furnace did not start. I changed out the mother board for about fifty dollars and never woke up to a cold camper again. Was not too hard to change out the mother board reaching through a cupboard. Hopefully you can just pull the end off of it with out pulling the whole unit.

Thanks for the help everyone! Wayne mentioned that a low voltage fuse was preventing his furnace from lighting. Is that the automotive type fuse located inside the trailer, or is located somewhere else?

I had a problem we ours a few years back and it turned out my igniter had corroded enough that I was not getting a good spark. Changed it out and no problem since.

Yes it is the auto type fuse in the braker box. It should be labeled.

Removal of the 12vdc fuse basically does a reset to the electronics board. Can't hurt the issue, but could solve it. John

Some good ideas on what the problem may be and how to resolve the issue, but still not sure to how to access the furnace parts without totally removing the furnace from the basement compartment. Has anyone ever removed their unit and what is the best way to go at it? Perhaps I am missing something and the furnace does not have to be removed when replacing the control board/sail switch and the igniter. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My Montana is on a permanent site about 8hrs from my home and if I have to remove the furnace it will be during my next trip prior to winter.

While you identified your Montana as a 2006 year, the model was not given. The furnace is located in different places on some models. If we knew what model you had, we might be better able to help you.

In most models (yours may be an exception) you can access the furnace by removing the rear wall on the curb side of the basement. This will expose the area under the stairs/bedroom. Often there is enough room to reach the furnace even if you have to crawl in a bit.

My Montana model number is 3500RL. The furnace is located in the basement on the curb side and you can get at the furnace by removing a panel inside the basement compartment. I have crawled into the basement and seen the furnace to obtain the info off the furnace itself, but I cant figure out a way to access the control board without totally removing the furnace. When I looked at the furnace from the inside of the basement, it appears that the opposite side of the unit is facing outward. The top side of the furnace snugs the floor of the trailer and I couldn't see much. I didn't see any access covers into the furnace cover facing outward that you can get into. That's why I am thinking that I have to totally remove the furnace to work on it. Are my observation correct? Do I have to remove the furnace to work on it?

If you go to the link on the bottom of my comment it will show you the location of our igniter. Sorry for the other photos just to see 3-4. My unit is a 2002 3295rk.
