CareFree Slide Toppers
I replaced the canvas on the bedroom slide topper.
I had the replace the canvas and hardware on the two big slides. The local service used CareFree instead of the A&E that I had on. So the repair bill included new hardware.
After looking at the design of the A&E and CareFree. I recommend the CareFree Sideout Kover II toppers.

A bit "off-topic" maybe...... Dick.....get your binoculars out! You may be able to find him in your area. It is a "white Montana" with a red truck.
Ok, now back to your regularly scheduled topic on slide toppers!!!

Yes, I can drive over there, but I thought others might want to know the difference also. Long drive for the folks wintering in the RGV or Florida.

Slide topper information can be looked up on the vendors website. I replaced the end caps on my big slide and fabric as well. Fabric came from this vendor;

Looking at putting on slide toppers. After reading all the comments in various places on MOC. Seems like the benefits out weigh the negatives. Question which one Dometic AE or Carefree. Local trailer place deals in Carefree. Camping World Dometic. Awning on HC is Dometic. Have install price on carefree for anti billow and cover. Guess I can get a bid from Camping world. Thoughts and recommendations? I am new to this 5er.

I'm glad your slide toppers from Carefree worked for you. My Carefree toppers were replaced after six months...on a brand new RV. They claimed they had a bad batch of thread. Plus, Carefree is very hard to deal with, you must use one of their approved techs, and they will not send parts to an owner. I also had a big Carefree powered awning that had the motor quit. Again, they won't deal with an owner. I wrote them a very nice detailed email...never heard a word, I'll never use them again.

Hooker, thanks for reply. I haven't decide which brand. Carefree looked good but after searching around I may go with Dometic. Seems like folks have problems with them so it is hard to know to stay away from them or spend a boat load of money and get them. I don't want to try and install so more money.

As I previously mentioned, I was able to service my dometic. Heard stories about the deflectors on carefree adding to the flapping noise when windy. Too each his own.

All I can add to this is my input of dealing with dometic to find out if I could get a new adjustable pitch arm (sideswipe of arkansas highway dept sign). They were extremely helpful, told us part number, price, etc and we received it in less than four days. Camping world didn't think we could get and would have to but new hardware for one side, but they would call dometic for us if we wanted. I have had only dometic awnings and have no experience with carefree. John

Thank you for the information. I will see what price dometic has. Interesting on the carefree wind flap. They claim it deflects the wind so it won't flap. Guess another marketing gimmick.
