Route question West VA NEW

Next week, we will be traveling south from Michigan to Marietta, OH. Then on south to Florida. Is I-77 good to tow on through WV? I know that it goes through some rugged territory. If I-77 is not a good route, are there any good alternatives? Thanks in advance - Jim

Thanks, all. We had a great trip through beautiful West Virginia with fabulous color on the trees. It rained through much of this leg but the colors were great. The roads had some construction but traveled well.

I-77 is fine Jim. The southern portion is a toll road and there are a couple of twisty-turny sections but I pull it all the time. Take it easy on the section between Cedar Grove and Beckley and you will be fine. There are some good hills as well going south particularly when you get south of Beckley, but again, take it easy and you will do fine.

I77 from Marietta to Charleston is good - then you hit the turnpike for 100 miles. $2.50 per toll times 3 tolls. They have done some paving....just a couple of spots that are not real smooth. Take your time, speed limit is 55 for a while. Nothing serious as far as pulls go, but coming down flat top/Ghent is about 4 miles of 6% grade.
We just spent the weekend at Pipestem state park (15 miles from interstate with full hook ups). Leaves are in full bloom, so if you need a place to stay I recommend it.
Safe travels,
Joe

We go that way all the time with no problems. Beautiful scenery through the mountains.

We stayed at Pipestem a few years ago too. Very nice. As others have said, a nice scenic travel. Just take your time. A few sections between Charleston and Beckley are a little rough from concrete expansion joints raised up.

Us flatlanders have used I 77 between Charlston and Beckley, No problems-- Even in the winter except those snowflakes that appear.
