Larry-
There is definitely more flex than when you showed it to me. Hope that the fix will not be too involved and you can get it done rapidly.

No problems in the corners yet but keeping an eye on them, my appointment is the 27th at my dealer to check it out.

Charlie

Thanks for the reply and concern on my problem. Don't let your tires get square setting around, keep them rolling and they will stay round. Larry & LaVonne

Here is some pictures of the repair on the flex problem which was done. I have my doubts on this repair by just adding about 15 short screws to the side, and 4 or 5 up from the bottom. This was suggested by Keystone.

Sorry to read about the flex problem. Is it flexing both sides of camper? Maybe the old screws pulled through the aluminum and the new screws will hold. Looks and it's starting to get some rust forming on the frame, did they caulk the seams for you? Always was curious what the underside looked like thank for the PICS! Keep us informed, HOPE Keystone stays in your corner with this problem! See-Ya

I only had flex on the bedroom side, and the rust was caused because the molding on the bedroom side was moving, pulling the caulking apart. I think there is about 4 members with the same problem, will keep all informed with this issue. Others with this problem, please keep me informed also, maybe we can help each other out.

I've read a lot about this on the forum and I was wondering if there is a timeframe where this problem got correct prior to shipping at the factory. I have a 2006 (early last fall) 2955 and I was wondering if I should expect any of these problems?

Thanks!

Larry it looks like your 298RLS and your 2955RL are similar floor plans, except for the basement area. Can you tell who built the frame work on your Mountaineer, is there any way to find who's the manufacture of a particular frame per brand or year? Looks like the flex problem is not limited to any model, or that weight could be the cause per individual model.

Why would Keystone not try it fix the flex problem the with the same fix on the newer model frames as shown in richfaa PICS? See-Ya

Helen and Rich,

I hope you enjoy your vacation and kick back in your chairs and get to smell the roses. Everyone needs to stop and enjoy things that God has created. Lots of those things get lost in our busy lives.

Looking forward to your posts about the great time you are having. Wishing you safe travels to and from home.

I am looking forward to the day we get to take our 3400 on the road and get to see the country from the retired perspective. Heck someone has to do it.

I'm not sure but I think the frames are made by Lippert, but I do know the pinbox and slideouts are made by Lippert.

richfaa
I can't find the pictures of the triangle pieces of iron that beef up the frame that you posted. I seen them once but can't find them, can you post them again? I think our coach has triangle pieces welded in to prevent the flex, it looks like our flex is more toward the nose of the unit.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions Larry & LaVonne

Can't find the pics myself...I would not take it for granted that the mod was done in your Mountaineer,Perhaps Dale, from Lippert, MIMF2 can be of some help.I seem to recall that the re engineering was done by Lippert but my recall is in question. From your description it sure sounds like the Flex problem.. We are about to pull out of the driveway for a extended trip or I would dig the pics out and re post.

Larry here are the PIC

I've read that there are a couple of frame makers out there. But then Dale, from Lippert, MIMF2 has in the past advised about the weight limits on the frames. If Lippert is the builder I'd like to see they step up to the plate for a real fix to your flex problem. I'm a welder and a tradesman and take pride in my skills and it upsets me when engineers and trades people drop the ball! Ok I'll shut up now, I hope things do work out with the frame problem.

Thanks for the picture, I tried to find it but no luck. I went out to check our frame and compare it and it is exactly like the picture, with the small gusset in the corners. We hope MIMF2 responds to this thread. Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens. Larry & LaVonne

We are about to head out for Goshen In. for our flex problem, our appointment is August 21. We have lots of time to get there, so we will be taking our time. I hope they can get our problem fixed, this has been taking allot of time to get resolved.

We are hoping we can make the rally, don't know if we can stay that long for the rally. Only if we could find a reasonable priced place to park. Thanks to all for your support. Larry & LaVonne

Larry and LaVonne, hamcamper (Kaye and Erwin Heins) recommended a Passport America campground in Howe, Indiana to us when they were our neighbors recently, Grand View Bend Community Associastion. It has only water and sewer but lots of other amenities for $8.00 per night for PA members. The campground at the Fairgrounds is about $18.00 per night(30 amp). Howe is 30 miles from Goshen, near Shipshewanna and the large flea market. Hope you get your frame fixed and that it doesn't interfere with your plans to stay for the rally.

Larry and LaVonne, there are lots of Walmarts around there you could rotate among. Two in Goshen. You see RV's there all the time, mostly deliveries getting some rack time before heading out in the morning.

I sure hope you two can be there for the rally.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

Thanks for the places to look for, hope we can hangout and make the rally.

Steve

You suggested Wal-Mart? It might cost more, every time we go in we spend at least $150.

Thanks to all, hope to see you at the rally.
