Here in Alaska, it appears that the Air Force is lagging behind on updating their campgrounds, compared to the Army FamCamps. The Army facilities at Seward Alaska are really nice but then I shouldn't tell you that 'cause I might want to go back.

We're presently at Fort Richardson and they even have a free laundromat. Can't beat that price! Facilities are a little skimpy as far as restrooms but it's in a nice setting with all pullthroughs for $16.00 per night, full hookups. It's nice to have commissary and BX facilities close, too. WiFi is lacking, We're on somebody's connection on the base.

Ft Meade, MD great as stated. US Naval Station, Annapolis privative, no full hookup but an alternate if needed in the DC area. Only a couple large sites to handle size of our Montana.
Quantico VA is rustic. Nice view of the Lunga Reservoir but primitive sites. Some with full hookup and upgrading to 50 amp service. Full hookup layout not the best. This is an old site. No bath house and only one holer potty facilities, dump station 5 miles down the road on way out. Camp store only for reservation, boat rental, beer and bait. Still we like the view if we can get one of the three good sites.
Dayton Ohio Fam Camp is nice unless it rains, in a low area.
Onslow Beach, Jacksonville, NC not bad between ocean and inland water way.
Patrick AFB,FL nice place on the Banana river. This one was expensive for us. We bought BigSky here in 03. Traded truck and trailer.
Still waiting retirement to check out the rest.

We have stayed at the campground on Fort Meade, MD with our 3400RL many times. Beautiful bath houses and facilities. Many pull throughs. Nice trees. Wide and long cement sites with your own little picnic area with a hook for your lantern or whatever you want to hang there. They also have cable.

Another place in Maryland is down at Solomon's Island. It's run by the Navy and the "F" area is amazingly nice. Cement pads that are back in. Lots of space between sites. Bath houses are OK. There is a great fishing pier (great for rock fish fishing in the fall), a couple of pools, and all sorts of stuff for kids and adults.

Forgot to add this to my last post. We also stayed at the AF family camp on McConnell AFB outside Wichita, KS. Only 11 sites. NO facilities. All sites are back in and a really tight back in at that! The sites are also VERY close together. We ended up spending one night and then moving to a commercial campground off base. It did have one thing going for it though - it was really cheap!

I forgot about Solomon's and yes some of the site are Cement others are on the grass and it was one of the places I had to use the 4x4 to get out. The spot was freshly seeded and still very muddy after the rain. Watch the wind, I lost an awning with $99.00 damage, just under the deductible. Good learning experience. I got the screw in dog anchors, 14' tie down strap and 12" small garage door spring to secure my awnings from that time forward.

Staying at Hill AFB Ogden UTAH. Good concrete pads, full hookups, 14 per nite, close to all base facilities. Howard Bebout, camp host is a good guy.

For all you military types out there, here is a pretty good web site that has RV site lists for most of the bases, at least it looks pretty complete to me. USN retired.

UPDATE. We recently(nov. 05) stayed at Barksdale AFB at Shreveport La. 1, its hard to get to as it is tucked way back in the boonies. 2, It is located right under the flight path and while the B-52s are flying it gets a bit loud. 3, the park comes equiped with mesquitoes almost as big as the aircraft. The facilities are antique but clean. I didn't check the milage but from the Gate to the park must be 5-6 miles. Next stop was Tyler state park just north of I-20 on Hwy 14 north of Tyler, Texas. It must be a beautiful place in the summer because it is very wooded. When we came through the leaves had about all fallen and were brown, very quiet place, nice lake. Only stayed overnight each place so didn't check out other facilities.

This trip we stayed going and coming at Scott AFB, IL, nice no sewer but dump. Wright-Patterson, OH is lovely with all hookups. Mountain Home, ID is off the beaten path but nice pull thrus. OKC is nice. We have stayed at quite a few around the country - several way around the flight line but not that far from commissary, bx/px or class six. The only thing we would like to see is diesel carried at the station on base. The best bet is like all have said is get the book.

We miss diesel on the bases, too. They offer it in Alaska but haven't found a base with it in the lower 48 yet. Still have plenty to check out though.

At Fort Bliss RV Park. Great level concrete sites. 15.00 but 13.00 with Golden Age.
Lots of room. No reservations but space very available. Call for availability.

Stayed at Red River Army Depot Lake ?? Camp groung in Texarkana. Way out in the woods. Campground is OK and rate was 10 for us each night. Good for hunters, fishermen, etc.

Stayed at Little Rock AFB FamCamp. Pretty good site. !2 per night. Easy access.

Update . Oceana NAS in Virginia Beach CG is now online. Call the Dam Neck CG number. We will stay there next week and will give you all an update on quality.

Thanks for the hint about Oceana NAS. We used to live in Hampton, Virginia so that's probably a location that we'll visit in the future.

Staying at Oceana. !%/day or 90/wk. Laundary, office, showers not finished.
Sites are large, two concrete roow harstands, tables. Some do get wet when it rains.

Staying at Charleston AFB. All sites are back in and most hardstands. Not that difficult to back into. Only has 30 amps and water (no sewer) but dump station as you leave. $10.00 per night.

BE CAREFUL OF OVERHANGING BRANCHES WHEN ENDTERING AND BACKING IN. THERE IS ROOM TO AVOID THEM BUT I CAN SEE THAT SOME MIGHT HAVE TROUBLE IF THEY ARE NOT AWARE.

No cable TV or WIFI but base is small and golf course is right next door.

Staying at Pelican Roost on NS Mayport. Don't tell anyone about this place. It approaches the best yet. Its in the Military RV book.

Staying at NAS Jax campground. OK place. Sites are not exactly level, even the new hardstands. Laundary/showers/restrooms good. Nice new FREE machines in the laundary,

Cost $72.00/wk for us. Wireless 14.95 per week through subscription online. I am using it now.
WIFI is not always perfect but OK.

Three reports...first, Seal Beach NWS, Calif...absolutely the nicest military RV facility we've ever stayed in...new, clean, roomy & modern. Wi-Fi available( a bit expensive). Sparkling clean laundry facilities, 8 new (and free) washers and 8 driers. Big new TV in the laundry. If you HAVE to be in in the LA area, this is the place to stay. 20 min to Disney.

San Diego, Fiddler's Cove (Navy Amfib Base, 2 miles south of the Hotel Del Coronado on the Silver Strand - Hwy 75). A bit older place, but a great location. Concrete hardstands, 30 amps and water; no sewer at sites, but a dump site on the way in/out. Tight parking, close spaced side to side. Some sites right on the Bay. Not designed for today's big RVs, but they will fit. Wi-fi available, but more expensive than even Seal Beach. $4/hr, $10/day for wi-fi, and no weekly rate!

Visited Admiral Baker RV Park, just to see it. Further north and inland a bit, and is newer. Military golf course close by. Really "challenging" ("interesting?") little hill climb going out...downhill on the way in.

MacDill AFB. Very large. Lots of activities nearby. 2 golf courses. Potlucks, beach. We really enjoyed it.

Sold out for 2006 winter season already. You have to really read the descriptions for reservation, etc. and then call to understand them. Vary desireable place to winter over.
