What's in Your Backyard?
We live on some small land near both national and state forest and over the years I've discovered that one corner appears to be a game trail. I have my target range set up near that corner to make sure my kids can make sure their rifles are sighted in. On a regular basis we see rabbit, deer, coyote, racoon, opossum, fox and road runner. The most interesting things have been to watch a cougar linger for about 2 minutes there while I was sitting in a lounge chair on the deck and twice a bobcat stay for an extended time. Once over 10 minutes while we were inside the house. I got photos through the glass door of our bedroom.

We don’t have cougars but do have everything else plus black bears. We don’t leave trash bags in the back of out truck at night. A bear will tear your truck up crawling over the side. We have a 100 yard range out ther too. If my big game rifles won’t shoot less than 1/2 inch groups and by ground hog rifles won’t shoot 1/4 inch 5 shot groups I fix them. Good to have another shooter with us.

On my property I have seen all of the above mentioned except for cougars of the 4 legged variety. We also have feral hogs that roam this area. If my Colt LE6920, Benelli M1 or other assorted firearms can't take care of business, then I need to go to a old folks home.

Up here in Northeast Texas we have plenty (far too many) feral hogs, lots of deer, a few bobcats, the usual coons and possoms, and just once both my wife and me saw out in the edge of the woods a cougar, unmistakable with a long tail and tawny fur. Never again, but we know of people nearby who have lost pets to some wild animal.

And a few more. The sheep were not in our back yard; a few miles away. So many deer I quit taking photos of them.

We have 10 acres of view property where we keep our camper set up on a full service RV pad overlooking the valley and mountains. We live in downtown Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and "get away" to our summer retreat only 15 minutes away. We regularly have deer (every day), occasional moose and elk, turkey, occasional bear, porcupine, cougar (although I've never seen one), coyote, geese, duck, eagles and you name it. A bear chewed through our sewer line a couple of years ago and left huge bite marks in it. Nature at its best.

I'm hoping to see a mountain lion or bobcat; nice that you got that one.

Nature is truly wondrous. In Dripping Springs (at the ranch) we have seen more wildlife than anywhere else we have lived. We are over run with deer and wild boar like most of Texas, but we too have fox, bobcat, panther, porcupine, rock squirrels, all kinds of snakes, Jack rabbit, wild turkey, opossum, a large variety of birds, roadrunner, gopher turtles, and snapping turtles just to name a few.

We live on 20acre country estate on the Southern edge of the Ozark mountains. We have a 2 acre spring fed and fully stocked pond! The spillway of the pond makes a 14’ waterfall that our home is designed to view. We keep ducks on the pond and have the expected usual variety of wildlife for our area.
I have introduced 3 ten year olds to their first deer out of my big deer stand/condo right on the property and between our pond and Cadron Creek (that we have frontage on) we keep the grandkids entertained fishing and kayaking.
Life is good here at Tranquility Falls!

Isn’t it wonderful we could live in such nice places. I’ve lived on the same 25 acre farm all my life. When I was young there was rabbits, squirrel and quail here and that is all the game we had. There are a few rabbits left and no quail. When we built our home 42 years ago I walked out behind our house and found a deer track. I ran back to our house and took my wife to show her. Now they are every where here along with turkey and bear. We have coyotes that you can’t get rid of but no hogs yet which I will shoot all I can get the X on. 60 years ago we had elk here one summer. They came from the Blues Ridge Parkway where they were stocked. They didn’t last long. People here didn’t have much money and I’m sure they wound up on the dinner table.

I've actually spotted the Cougar twice about 2 years apart. Most recently on the game trail at the corner of our property. Watched it from a lawn chair from 50 yards for 2 full minutes. It looked right at me once but did not "see" me. 2 years b4, saw one same time of day (7:30am) about 2 miles north cross FM1375 2 miles from New Waverly, Tx. only 150 yards in front of my work van. Tried to spot the tracks after passing the spot where it jumped a 20' bar ditch but had no luck.
And Lynwood, my Savage Axis in .223 after break in shoots pretty good with Hornady 40 gr. V-Max. The coyote corner is 150 yards out.
