DEF question
Anybody know if DEF has a shelf life, or if it goes bad in the tanks? Never used the stuff before, so I’m just curious.

Eugene,
It does have a shelf life. Unless your rig sits for over 6 month or you leave a jug in the garage for a year or more you should not have an issue.
I have never seen seen first hand reporting of an age related problem.

Generally considered to be 2 years. But that is stored in stable ideal conditions below about 65 F.

I sort of remember once over 75 degrees, the shelf life is more like 6 months and even worse at 90 degrees. This is just my general foggy memory tho

I use the DEF fluid. It does have a shelf life. It’s about a third the cost from what I’ve seen if you can find a station that will allow you to pump it.

One thing to note is that if you use old DEF fluid, it can cause very expensive damage to the sensors and exhaust system in your TV, so don't buy up a bunch and store it for long periods. Ask me how I know....

Shelf life is dependent on the temperature where it is stored. It varies from a max of three years if stored where below 50* to six months if store in 95* temps. Also, freeze point is 12*. There is lots of information on this question on line.
