2008 PIN BOX Question

Hey folks! I'm new here but have been lurking for a bit now. I have a question regarding my 2008 3465SA. Does anyone else out there have the same unit with a MORryde pin box? If so, which one do you have? I bought my rig used and it came with a MORryde however I suspect it was put on after purchase. I am convinced it is the wrong one. It's the RPB72-0719. I drive a 2019 F350 CCSB SRW. I cannot hook up with out having to stop, get out to raise the tailgate, then proceed to hook up. I can't open the front compartment either. Very inconvenient.

I'm considering changing out the MORryde for a different model: RPB72-1716 . This is the one I suspect should have been installed in the first place.

Any thoughts anyone?

THanks!

Rod.

It does sound like you have the wrong pin box. We've had MorRydes on both Montanas and could always hookup and then put the tailgate up. We do have a shortbed truck, however.

There used to be different length (center of kingpin to the first row of bolts) boxes available. The MORryde website is a mess. It shows different boxes and their carrying capacity but not the length (that I could find).

I believe you have the short version (which some favored for its ability to make tight turns without the pin box hitting the truck bed sidewalls) v. the standard longer one (the 1716). You should be good with the 1716 but I would call MORryda just to be sure,.

I looked at both of the numbers you mentioned and they both looked to be the same length.
Where is your pin located in the bed of the truck? Is it directly over the center of the rear axle? Is it mounted forward of the axle? Can you post a picture of your pinbox on the trailer?

See if you can find what you have and what you need here:

I had this very situation on my 2008 after I changed trucks. The new one was a long box and required a longer pin box. The trailer came with a Lippert box so someone has upgraded to the Morryde. I bought and installed a longer box used from a local dealer, also a Lippert but 8 " longer.

Here is some information from https://www.etrailer.com/faq-measuri...l-pin-box.aspx with info on pin box dimensions and replacements.

My 2007 OEM pinbox was a Lippert 1116 which is classified in the link above as "medium" length. I replaced it with a 5th Airborne approx the same length. But both pin boxes had adequate length for me to hook up without raising the tailgate on my 2012 F350 long bed.

And as questioned above, is your hitch centered over or very nearly over your axle?

Same here 1116 on my 2008 3400RL. Its been towed with two different trucks, both short beds .Presently Ram 3500 , which is the shortest of the three, Ford , Ram, and GM . No problems backing in with the tailgate down, or cab clearance .

Having the same year fifth wheel, the RPB72-1116 has worked great now for 12 years.

My Monty came from the factory with the MOR/ryde RPB72-1716. I have a long bed truck and have no difficulty hitching up with the tail gate down. With the tailgate closed, I can also open the front storage area door about half way, until it is too close to the paint on the tailgate. I also learned quite by accident one day that I could tow and turn with the tailgate down. When I finally saw that I had forgotten to close the tailgate, I almost didn't want to get out and look at the front of the Monty but all was OK. Someone was looking out for me that day.

Hey guys! Sorry for delay in responding. Been crazy this week!!!

THanks so much for all the input. I am definitely going to change it out. Just wondering now whether I should go RPB72-1116 or RPB72-1716. My hitch is located directly over the axle using the Ford factory system and a Hijacker 16K super slide. (manual slide).

Thanks again y'all!

I have a 2011 3455sa. Bought used with its original Mor Ryde pin box. Not sure of the part #s but it is the extended (long) version. With my dually long bed, I have no issues hitching up. In fact I can walk from side to side while hitched with the tail gate down. Never had an issue with the pin box hitting the truck sides. I can open the front compartment doors fully while hitched with the tail gate closed. I can even hitch up at a pretty good angle without the tail gate hitting the camper.

Hope this helps.
