My only thoughts would be to check temp forecast. New Orleans was pretty chilly this morning and it looks like in the next two weeks they will have trouble getting much above 60. Heck, it was 34 this morning when I got up in Ft. Myers!

What an idea. Put pontoons on your camper and head to Hawaii. Use your GPS take a little extra fuel and head out.

Well in mid-Dec our low was 22 - might get lucky ... just take a heavier coat and mow wood to split to get warm. Need my near Texas folks to share some of their favorite locations. Mill Creek was great but would like a new site.
Has anyone stayed in LA State Parks?

Yes, we have stayed in Louisiana state parks, but not any near the Texas border. Still, our experience may be of some value.
We have stayed several times (as far back as 1962) in Fontainebleau State Park on Lake Pontchartrain. It is an older park, but there is an altogether new RV area. More recently we have stayed at Fairview/Riverside, which is on the Bayou near Madisonville, LA. You can reserve specific sites online at both these parks.
I was very disappointed recently to find that Hodges Gardens has been closed as a state park and it is uncertain what the future will be.
We enjoy visiting Natchitoches though the RV parks there are not ideal. But the town and the plantations make it worth staying there. There is a park just a bit further out west of town where we have not stayed, but next time we will probably try it.
One other park we have stayed in is the Colfax Recreational Area on the Red River--a very nice COE type park--really nice.
General comment: Louisiana state parks, generally good and easy to reserve online.

South East Texas - I would suggest Kemah or Seabrook. Lots to see and do for a weekend and you can purchase shrimp right off the boats. NASA is close by if that interests you.

P.S. If you do not already subscribe to Texas Highways Mag. You may want to do so. They list all the best places in Texas to visit (and of course this is Texas so there are millions)
