Gray Tanks Capacity

Does anybody know or measured the capacities of the 2 different gray tanks on the new Montanas? We have a 2012 3582 and the specs say I have 93 gallons capacity. My last rig had 60 gallons in 2 tanks and I was always filling the galley tank too soon.

Yup, that Monty has that much! You are referring to the gray tanks and the capacity is divided between the 2 gray tanks (lavatory/shower and a separate galley tank) with 46.5 gallons for each tank. You also have a 50 gallon black tank, and a 66 gallon fresh water tank. It sounds like you are gaining over 50% capacity of the galley tank from your prior rig.

I got this info from this link:

http://www.keystone-montana.com/index.php?page=specs

Don't forget to consider this weight when calculating the GVWR when the tanks are filled and you need to tow your rig somewhere carrying all that weight (hopefully to a dump station close by or dumped at the campground). If they are all full you'd be adding about 1,740 lbs just in fluids if all tanks are full (209 gallons times the 8.33, the weight of one gallon of water). If you've used up all the fresh water and just the gray and black tanks are full then the weight drops to about 1,200 lbs (143 gallons).

My TV wouldn't be able to carry all that weight driving on the open road with the extra weight on the pin since I can only carry about 500 lbs. Likewise my Monty only has about 500 lbs before it's overweight on its axles. So I dump at the hookup or call for the honey wagon. Hopefully you have a beefier truck than I do and the trailer has plenty of margin in your 3,248 lbs of cargo weight. My Monty only has 2,000lbs of cargo weight to spare and I already carry about 1,500 lbs of junk in the trailer as it is, leaving only 500 lbs on the Monty.

I have removed the front underbelly on our 2008 a couple of times and both the gray tank and the black tank are the same size. So I assume the galley tank is 43 gallons which is good for us because our water usage is higher in the bathroom than the kitchen.

Art's right and it makes it a real problem if you camp for a time where there are no sewer hookups and want to use a blue boy.

Thanks for the replies. Art, like you, I do my best to travel with empty tanks. I very seldom carry water except for a short distance and try to empty the other tanks at or as we leave the campground. My last rig had different size gray tanks and that's what I was wondering, if the new rig also had different size tanks. My dealer didn't know when I asked the question during our walk-thru. It appears my wash machine hook-up (no plans to get one) would be in the galley tank and that made me wonder if that one would be bigger.

Our washer dumps into the shower gray tank, but some of them do use the galley tank.

The washer in our '09 3400RL does not dump into any tank. It goes straight to the drain pipe. Instructions on the closet wall say to make sure the drain is open before using the washer.

Our new 3750 has the washer plumbing connected to shower tank. Not a problem since we won't ever use it unless hooked to sewer. First question I asked at PDI.

Can't imagine why anyone would want to carry waste water (more than a few gallons in the black tank) from one site to the next!
