Alamagordo to Artesia US82 travel

Has anyone traveled this road with their 5th wheel in tow. It appears to go through the mountains and I am looking for a way into Texas from Las Cruces without going through El Paso. I, like many of you, need 13'4" clearance. It looks like US380 through Ruidoso has clearance/tunnel issues.

You can take the Trans-Mountain road, hiway 376, and miss all of downtown and most of the traffic. It is a pretty good pull, but not as bad as 82 or 70 through Riodoso.

We've been that way a couple of times going to White Sands from the other side and didn't pull the rig behind us due to the grades and the tunnels. Not sure of the height of the tunnels but the magnificent views of the valley would be compounded by the grade involved. And avoiding the grades were enough for me.

From my limited experience.
First, US 380 does not go thru Ruidoso. US 70 goes from Alamagorda thru Ruidoso and merges with US 380 20 miles or so east of Ruidoso. US 380 originates at I-25 south of Socorro and bypasses Ruidoso some miles to the north.
We towed the Monte from Albuquerque area down I-25 to US 380, then east to NM 27 and down to Ruidoso where we spent several days. Leaving Ruidoso we took US 70 east, merging with US 380 and on to Roswell before turning south to Carlsbad. After a couple nights took US 180 from Carlsbad back to Texas. There were no clearance problems on any of that portion of highway.
While sightseeing we also drove US 70 from Ruidoso to Alamagordo (not towing) and I can't remember any concerns that way.
And from Alamagordo we took US 82 to Cloudcroft. That section of US 82 was pretty narrow, winding, and steep in some places. Not a route you will make good time on. I think I would only tow that route if I was planning on staying in the Cloudcroft area. But the steep winding part I believe is only a few miles of that overall route so it may not be too bad. We turned back north from Cloudcroft toward Ruidoso so don't know how it is going back down the east side.
Now I am trying to remember where there was a tunnel on US 380. If we passed thru one it was not an issue.
There is a tunnel on US 82 going east from Alamagordo. But google street view shows it has a clearance of 17'-0".

When I was a teenager living in Lovington, New Mexico; we used to hunt Pecos Diamonds around the oil fields of Artesia. That was a long time ago. The diamonds are rose colored. You couldn't buy a few in rock shops around. Kind of neat-cool.

We recently stayed at the Escapees Park The Ranch in Lakewood just south of Artesia. We were headed over to the Deming Rally. We wanted to take highway 82, but the couple we were with wanted to go take the by pass around El Paso. Everyone at The Ranch said they preferred to take the Artesia/Alamogordo route. I was concerned because of our height but they said no problems. Of course a lot depends on the weather conditions.

We've traveled both ways on 82 between Alamogordo and Artesia several times. In fact we prefer that route to any of the others.
