Use Hwy-46 - much nicer road, less traffic and fewer signal lights.

Hwy 46 it is if you're southbound on I-5.

Miles and miles of almond groves and then some oil fields. Lost Hills is a garden spot....not!

Having done both when towing, I definitely prefer Hwy 46 in either direction.

Most of the time we,too, choose hwy 46 over to hwy 99. Be advised, however, that there is major construction going on on hwy 99 just north of Bakersfield. There are major slow downs in that area.

Another option to the 58 or 46 is to take Stockdale Hwy. into Bakersfield. It is a good road but as you enter Bakersfield there are many signal lights. Our latest freeway has opened and will alleviate some of signal problems.

I've been on the new freeway but not out to its western terminal. I believe it is accessible at Allen Rd. To transition from the freeway to hwy 58 east bound just follow the signage. You will most likely have to transit onto hwy 99 then onto 58. Good luck. Dennis

Took highway 46 over to 99 and then into Bakersfield....It was perfect. Thank you Butch and Susan for the prompt answer.
